[The height of intervertebral foramen in operative treatment of isthmic spondylolisthesis].

49 patients with spondylolisthesis isthmica were treated in the years 1991-2006. The age of patients varied between 21 and 65 years, 43.7 year on average. Two stages operative protocol consisted of reduction of the slip by pedicular implant and anterior interbody fusion with the cages was used. The evaluation was based on x-rays height of the lumbar intervertebral foramen and posterior disc height in the 2 distal lumbar vertebrae pre and post operatively. This results showed clearly a decrease of both these values on the level of the slip, demonstrating the lumbar intervertebral stenosis. Te operative procedure decomprssed the lumbar intervertebral foramen and increased both values evaluated Postoperatively in the neighbor vertebrae a height lumbar intervertebral foramen was increased but posterior disc height a unchanged.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between preoperative cervical intervertebral foramen width and area and the persistence of postoperative pain in patients diagnosed with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR).

Methods: Patients were divided into two groups, based on their pain relief at the 6-month postoperative follow-up: the pain relief group and the persistent pain group. We compared various parameters, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), duration of symptoms, preoperative Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, Neck Disability Index (NDI) score, postoperative ratio of disc space distraction, preoperative width of the intervertebral foramen (WIVF), and area of the intervertebral foramen (AIVF) between the two groups.

Background: CT-routine MRI fusion imaging has recently become available to evaluate spinal anatomy before surgery. Due to the 3-5 mm slice thickness and non-isotropic of routine MRI sequence, the CT-routine MRI fusion imaging is not good. The MRI multiple recalled gradient echo (MERGE) sequence is potentially useful in diagnosis of lumbar degeneration disease due to the better nerve roots visualization, 1 mm slice thickness and its isotropy.
