This research addresses the impact of illicit drug use on labour market outcomes of men in Mexico. We leverage statistical information from three waves of a comparable national survey and make use of the Lewbel's heteroskedasticity-based instrumental variable strategy to deal with the endogeneity of the drug consumption. Our results suggests that drug consumption has fairly negative effects in the Mexican context: it reduces employment, occupational attainment and formality and raises unemployment of local males.

Inflammation is an integral aspect of influenza A virus (IAV) infection. It is critical to induce an antiviral environment to reduce viral replication and dissemination, while also being essential to the development and maturation of adaptive immunity, which ultimately resolves infection. Conversely, excessive pulmonary inflammation and cellular influx are characteristic of lethal IAV infections.

Analyses of the Grampian Laboratory Outcomes Morbidity and Mortality Study-II cohort support the notion that acute kidney injury (AKI) increases the risk of progression of glomerular filtration rate after recovery from AKI to a new baseline. However, the findings have to be considered in the bigger context of the absolute event rates for de novo progression versus nonrecovery and the competing risk of death after AKI. Examination of the data raises important implications for the design and implementation of clinical trials with interventions that target the AKI-to-chronic kidney disease transition.
