We describe the synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of two new complexes, one decanuclear iron(III) cluster and one hexanuclear mixed-valence manganese(II/III) cluster, where the previously unexplored polydentate ligand Bis-tris propane {(CH2OH)3CNH(CH2)3NHC(CH2OH)3} is used to link small cluster fragments into high-nuclearity complexes.

Field-effect transistors (FETs) have been developed as pH sensors by using various device structures, fabrication technologies, and sensing film materials. Different transistor structures, like extended-gate (EG) FETs, floating-gate FET sensors, and dual-gate (DG) FETs, can enhance the sensor performance. In this article, we report the effects of using solution-gate and bottom-gate FET configurations on pH sensing and investigate the influence of different ionic concentrations of buffers in the measured signals.

Here we demonstrate, using pulsed femtosecond laser-induced two-photon oxidation (2PO), a novel method of locally tuning the sensitivity of solution gated graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs) without sacrificing the integrity of the carbon network of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown graphene. The achieved sensitivity with 2PO was (25 ± 2) mV pH in BIS-TRIS propane HCl (BTPH) buffer solution, when the oxidation level corresponded to the Raman peak intensity ratio (D)/(G) of 3.58.

The multinucleating ligand 2,2'-(propane-1,3-diyldiimino)bis[2-(hydroxymethyl)-propane-1,3-diol] (bis-tris propane, HL) is used in the design of a new family of 3d-4f complexes that display an unusual {LnCu} four-blade propeller topology. We report the synthesis, structure and magnetic characterisation of [LnCu(HL)](Cl)(ClO)·6CHOH, where Ln = Gd (1), Tb (2), Dy (3), La (4). Previously we have used CHCOO and NO as co-ligands with bis-tris propane, but here the use of Cl and ClO leads to coordination of four {Cu(HL)} units around the central Ln ion.

The phenomenon of protein-protein association on multimodal chromatography resins was described for two different case study examples. The adsorption pattern of single-component solutions of calcium-rich alpha-lactalbumin (aLaCa) and calcium-depleted alpha-lactalbumin (aLa) and their mixtures with bovine serum albumin was determined on a multimodal anion-exchange chromatography medium. In single-component solutions, both aLaCa and aLa exhibited identical adsorption behavior at low resin loadings, whereas at high loadings the adsorption strength of aLa markedly exceeded that of alaCa.

A challenge in the production of recombinant Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) for gene therapies is the presence of capsids that lack the required gene of interest. The impact of these empty vectors in therapies is not fully understood, however the ability to control the ratio of empty to full particles, which contain the genetic payload, is a necessary step in the purification of these viruses. In this study, a novel anion exchange chromatography elution method for enrichment of full AAV particles is demonstrated.
