Effectiveness and safety of modified fully oral 9-month treatment regimens for rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis: a prospective cohort study.

Lancet Infect Dis

October 2024

Division of Communicable Diseases, Environment, and Health, WHO Regional Office for Europe, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Background: In 2020, WHO guidelines prioritised the use of a standard fully oral short treatment regimen (STR) consisting of bedaquiline, levofloxacin or moxifloxacin, ethionamide, ethambutol, high-dose isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and clofazimine for the management of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis. A high prevalence of resistance to constituent drugs precluded its widespread use by countries in the WHO European region. We evaluated three 9-month fully oral modified STRs (mSTRs) in which ethionamide, ethambutol, isoniazid, and pyrazinamide were replaced by linezolid, cycloserine, or delamanid (or a combination).

Virus-like particles (VLPs) offer an attractive possibility for the development of vaccines. Recombinant core antigen (HBc) of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) was expressed in different systems, and the expression system was shown to be effective for the production of HBc VLPs. Here, we used HBc of the HBV genotype G (HBc/G) as a technologically promising VLP carrier for the presentation of spike RBM and nucleocapsid protein-derived peptides of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant for subsequent immunological evaluations of obtained fusion proteins.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to estimate the prevalence of chronic Hepatitis C Virus (cHCV) infections in EU/EEA countries for the year 2019, using a method called multi-parameter evidence synthesis (MPES) to analyze data from various sources.
  • - In 29 out of 30 EU/EEA countries, the overall cHCV prevalence was found to be 0.50%, with notably higher rates in the eastern EU/EEA (0.88%), and over a third of cases were linked to people who inject drugs (PWID).
  • - The findings indicate that while cHCV prevalence is generally low, targeted efforts are needed, particularly in eastern regions and among PWID, to

December 2023

Radiology Department, Riga East University Clinical Hospital, Stradins University, Hippocrates Street 2, Riga, 1038, Latvia.

Background: Pregnancy after liver transplantation poses a significant challenge to both the patient and the transplant team.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 19-year-old European patient who underwent liver transplantation 5 years previously owing to autoimmune hepatitis. Poor compliance with immunosuppressive therapy and missed follow-up visits during the patient's first pregnancy likely contributed to her liver function deterioration, hospitalization, and failed pregnancy.
