A chemical bonding approach based on tight-binding cluster and band calculations, taking into account on-site Coulomb repulsion (Hubbard U parameter) to differentiate doubly and singly occupied states, was applied to high- T C superconducting cuprates and related compounds. This work provides rational insight and explanations for issues such as (i) the actual oxidation number Cu (I+) for formally trivalent copper in oxides such as La 2Li 1/2Cu 1/2O 4, (ii) the dominant oxygen character of the doping holes in (CuO 2) ( n- ) planes, (iii) the Mott-Hubbard character of the insulator-to-metal transition triggered by hole doping, leading to an oxygen-to-copper charge transfer of avalanche type, (iv) the occurrence of an excitonic phase with anisotropic Frenkel-type excitons, (v) the role of Coulomb interactions between excitons and between doping holes and their exciton surroundings, and (vi) the on-time pairing of doping holes by means of an "excitonic glue".

Water contamination is a result of the excessive use of antibiotics nowadays. Owing to this environmental toxicity, photocatalytic degradation is the primary approach to non-biological degradation for their removal. In this context, zerovalent Bi-doped g-CN/BiMoO [g-CN/Bi@BiMoO] ternary nanocomposite was prepared using the wet impregnation method.

A polyacrylamide gel method has been used to synthesize a variety of polyvalent-transition-metal-doped Ni position of high entropy spinel oxides (NiZnMgCuCo)AlO-800 °C (A) on the basis of NiAlO, and the catalytic activity of A is studied under the synergistic action of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and simulated sunlight. The A containing polyvalent transition metals (Ni, Cu, and Co) can effectively activate PMS and efficiently degrade levofloxacin (LEV) and tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) under simulated sunlight irradiation. After 90 min of light exposure, the degradation percentages of LEV (50 mg L) and TCH (100 mg L) degrade by the A/PMS/vis system reach 87.

The pursuit to operate photocathodes at high accelerating gradients to increase brightness of electron beams is gaining interests within the accelerator community, particularly for applications such as free electron lasers (FEL) and compact accelerators. Cesium telluride (CsTe) is a widely used photocathode material and it is presumed to offer resilience to higher gradients because of its wider band gap compared to other semiconductors. Despite its advantages, crucial material properties of CsTe remain largely unknown both in theory and experiments.

The 2-substituted benzimidazole has emerged as a promising heterocyclic compound in the field of drug design. In pursuit of more sustainable photocatalysts for 2-substituted benzimidazole synthesis, the method for coating FeO with V-doped TiO was presented. On the base of characterizing composition, morphology, and properties, the prepared nano-sized FeO@V/TiO composites were used as a heterogeneous photocatalyst to catalyze the synthesis of 2-substituted benzimidazoles under light.
