Article Abstract

Dermatologic illnesses have historically been a significant source of morbidity and resource utilization in fielded military forces. The impact of cutaneous diseases during U.S. military conflicts is reviewed, and recent data from Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan are presented, confirming previous experience. A discussion of the difficulties of diagnosing and treating dermatologic conditions for deployed primary care providers is provided, including recommendations to improve patient care and military unit readiness.

Background: 7-Hydroxymethotrexate (7-OHMTX) is the main metabolite in plasma following high-dose MTX (HD-MTX), which may result in activity and toxicity of the MTX. Moreover, 7-OHMTX could produce crystalline-like deposits within the renal tubules under acidic conditions or induce renal inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell apoptosis through various signaling pathways, ultimately leading to kidney damage. The objectives of this study were thus to explore the exposure-safety relationship of two compounds and search the most reliable marker for predicting HDMTX nephrotoxicity.

Myelin loss induces neural dysfunction and contributes to the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases, injury conditions, and aging. Because remyelination is often incomplete, better understanding endogenous remyelination and developing remyelination therapies that restore neural function are clinical imperatives. Here, we use in vivo two-photon microscopy and electrophysiology to study the dynamics of endogenous and therapeutic-induced cortical remyelination and functional recovery after cuprizone-mediated demyelination in mice.
