Combining transparent embedding with sectioning is likely to be the future direction for tissue clearing and 3-dimensional (3D) imaging. A newly published transparent embedding system, TESOS (Transparent Embedding Solvent System), ensures consistent submicron resolution imaging throughout the entire sample, and can be compatible with different microscopy systems. This method shows great potential in connectome mapping, and might be an optimal option for future 3D multiplex immunofluorescence and RNA in situ hybridization imaging.

Reduce electrical overload via threaded Chinese acupuncture in nerve electrical therapy.

Bioact Mater

April 2025

Department of Orthopaedics, Shanghai Key Laboratory for Prevention and Treatment of Bone and Joint Diseases, Shanghai Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, 197 Ruijin 2nd Road, Shanghai, 200025, PR China.

Bioelectrical stimulation is a powerful technique used to promote tissue regeneration, but it can be hindered by an "electrical overload" phenomenon in the core region of stimulation. We develop a threaded microneedle electrode system that protects against "electrical overload" by delivering medicinal hydrogel microspheres into the core regions. The threaded needle body is coated with polydopamine and chitosan to enhance the adhesion of microspheres, which are loaded into the threaded grooves, allowing for their stereoscopic release in the core regions.

Monitoring genetic diversity of Torminalis glaberrima for resilient forests in the face of population fragmentation.

Ann Bot

January 2025

Unit of Ecological Genetics, Institute of Forest Biodiversity and Nature Conservation, Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW), Seckendorff-Gudent-Weg 8, Vienna, Vienna.

Background And Aims: Torminalis glaberrima (Gand.) Sennikov & Kurtto is a European tree species currently underutilized in forestry, valued for its high-quality wood and contribution to ecosystem stability. Despite a projected range expansion as climate change progresses, current population fragmentation levels may inhibit the species' ability to migrate and stabilize fragile forest ecosystems.

Robust interfaces in anodes play a crucial role in boosting sodium-ion battery (SIB) performance. However, the fragile interfaces constructed by a two-step synthesis or artificial stack are prone to be destroyed during the charging/discharging processes, which significantly reduces the lifetime of SIBs. Here, a facile construction strategy is developed to produce robust interfaces in hollow sphere-like CoSe/nitrogen-doped carbon (HS-CoSe/NC) using intrinsic Co, N, C in metal-organic framework as precursors, which enhance the electron/ion diffusion kinetics.

Populations are continually adapting to their environment. Knowledge of which populations and individuals harbor unique and agriculturally useful variation has the potential to accelerate crop adaptation to the increasingly challenging environments predicted for the coming century. Landscape genomics, which identifies associations between environmental and genomic variation, provides a means for obtaining this knowledge.
