Enantioselective tandem alkylation/arylation of primary phosphines with 1-bromo-8-chloromethylnaphthalene catalyzed by Pt(DuPhos) complexes gave P-stereogenic 1-phosphaacenaphthenes (AcePhos) in up to 74% ee. Diastereoselective formation of four P-C bonds in one pot with bis(primary) phosphines gave C2-symmetric diphosphines, including the o-phenylene derivative DuAcePhos, for which the rac isomer was formed with high enantioselectivity. These reactions, which appear to proceed via an unusual metal-mediated nucleophilic aromatic substitution pathway, yield a new class of heterocycles with potential applications in asymmetric catalysis.

We present a tandem aza-Heck/Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of -phenyl hydroxamic ethers with readily available arylboronic and alkenyl boronic acids. This protocol is enabled by a palladium catalyst paired with chiral phosphoramidite ligands, particularly under mild reaction conditions, yielding efficient and succinct synthetic routes to chiral isoindolinones with high enantioselectivity. Furthermore, this reaction exhibits excellent functional group compatibility and a rich diversity of subsequent transformations.

An asymmetric tandem esterification/Michael addition reaction of β-keto acylpyrazoles with -hydroxychalcones has been established under the catalysis of a bifunctional squaramide-tertiary amine. A wide variety of biorelevant 3,4-dihydrocoumarin derivatives were generally obtained in high yields (up to 93%) with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (>19:1 dr, up to 93% ee) under mild reaction conditions. This reaction represents the successful application of β-keto acylpyrazoles as 2C building blocks in catalytic asymmetric cyclizations.

The asymmetric [5 + 2] cycloaddition of VECs remains to be comparatively rare. Herein, we reported an enantioselective formal [5 + 2] annulation of 3-hydroxyquinolinones and vinylethylene carbonates (VECs) through Pd- and Cu-catalyzed tandem allylation/asymmetric [1,3]-rearrangement/hemiketalization sequences. The strategy exhibits good substrate tolerance, affording a wide range of tricyclic quinolinones bearing two adjacent quaternary stereocenters in moderate to good yields with excellent enantioselectivities.
