In this paper a mathematical description of a presynaptic episode of slow synaptic neuropeptide transport is proposed. Two interrelated mathematical models, one based on a system of reaction diffusion partial differential equations and another one, a compartment type, based on a system of ordinary differential equations (ODE) are formulated. Processes of inflow, calcium triggered activation, diffusion and release of neuropeptide from large dense core vesicles (LDCV) as well as inflow and diffusion of ionic calcium are represented. The models assume the space constraints on the motion of inactive LDCVs and free diffusion of activated ones and ions of calcium. Numerical simulations for the ODE model are presented as well. Additionally, an electronic circuit, reflecting the functional properties of the mathematically modelled presynaptic slow transport processes, is introduced.

Background: The Anticholinergic Risk Scale and Total Anticholinergic Load were developed to assess the risks associated with anticholinergic drugs. Recently, the Japan Anticholinergic Risk Scale was introduced; however, the total anticholinergic load for adverse events has not been clarified, and the criteria for risk assessment in clinical practice have not been established. In this study, we used data from the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report (JADER) database provided by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency to determine the total anticholinergic load associated with reported adverse events related to anticholinergic syndrome.

Background: Refugee women's reproductive health (RH) outcomes have been impacted by several factors, including experiencing war, lack of access to healthcare, and possible gender-based violence. After resettlement, low health literacy, financial difficulties, cultural and linguistic barriers, and unfamiliarity with the healthcare system also add to the preexisting barriers. Although several efforts have focused on health education and improving health literacy among refugee women, there has not been a validated tool to measure the effectiveness of these trainings and their possible impact.

Background: Riparian zones are vital transitional habitats that bridge the gap between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. They support elevated levels of biodiversity and provide an array of important regulatory and provisioning ecosystem services, of which, many are fundamentally important to human well-being, such as the maintenance of water quality and the mitigation of flood risk along waterways. Increasing anthropogenic pressures resulting from agricultural intensification, industry development and the expansion of infrastructure in tropical regions have led to the widespread degradation of riparian habitats resulting in biodiversity loss and decreased resilience to flooding and erosion.
