Purpose: Proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy stands as the primary treatment for upper gastrointestinal symptoms, yet poor adherence often results in treatment failure. Given that patients experiencing these symptoms frequently seek assistance at community pharmacies, the development of collaborative tools with primary care is becoming imperative. The objective was to assess the effectiveness of a pharmaceutical intervention, as demonstrated by a collaborative model between primary care and community pharmacies, in enhancing adherence to PPI among patients experiencing upper gastrointestinal symptoms.

Genetic susceptibility of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: a meta genome-wide association study in Asian population.

Leukemia

December 2024

Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510080, Guangdong, China.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is an aggressive malignancy and the most common form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) that occurs worldwide. To discover risk factors and pathogenesis of DLBCL, we performed the largest GWAS of DLBCL to date in samples of East Asian ancestry, consisting of 2,888 patients with DLBCL and 12,458 controls. The meta-analysis identified three novel loci, rs2233434 on 6p21.

This paper introduces the Sandbar Detector plugin for Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS), designed to streamline the detection and analysis of riverbed forms, previously hindered by time-consuming manual methods requiring extensive expertise in remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). The Sandbar Detector plugin, developed in Python, leverages the Sentinel Water Mask (SWM), a reliable remote sensing water index, for precise differentiation between water and land. By integrating SWM with QGIS, the plugin utilises high-resolution data from Sentinel-2 satellites, offering a robust tool for environmental analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how plasma metabolites are linked to the progression of chronic kidney disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes, focusing on kidney function decline measured by eGFR slope.
  • Researchers analyzed data from over 5,000 people, identifying specific elevated levels of lipids and amino acids that influence kidney function, both positively and negatively.
  • The findings suggest that metabolite abnormalities, particularly related to fatty acids, may indicate issues with fat breakdown and are connected to the risk of worsening kidney health in diabetic patients.
