The ubiquitin (Ub) ligase E6AP, which is encoded by the UBE3A gene, has been associated with several human diseases including cervical cancer and Angelman syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Yet, our knowledge about disease-relevant substrates of E6AP is still limited. The formation of a thioester complex between Ub and the catalytic Cys residue of E6AP represents an essential intermediate step in E6AP-mediated ubiquitination.

Constructing a strong bonded interface is highly desired to build fast charge-transfer channels and tune reactive sites for optimizing CO photoreduction. In this work, a covalent triazine framework (CTF) combined with a BiSBr heterojunction is designed using an electrostatic self-assembly process. Due to the oppositely charged states between two components and ultrasonic treatment, a strong coupled interface is realized with the formation of Bi-C/N/O bonds, leading to robust interfacial polarization.

Experimental reproducibility in organ-on-chip (OOC) devices is a challenging issue, mainly caused by cell adhesion problems, as OOC devices are made of bioinert materials not suitable for natural cellularization of their surfaces. To improve cell adhesion, several surface functionalization techniques have been proposed, among which the simple use of an intermediate layer of adsorbed proteins has become the preferred one by OOC users. This way, the cells use surface receptors to adhere to the adsorbed proteins, which are in turn attached to the surface.

Biological polyamines, such as spermine, spermidine, and putrescine, are abundant intracellular compounds mostly bound to nucleic acids. Due to their nucleophilic nature, polyamines easily react with apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites, DNA lesions that are constantly formed in DNA by spontaneous base loss and as intermediates of base excision repair. A covalent intermediate is formed, promoting DNA strand cleavage at the AP site, and is later hydrolyzed regenerating the polyamine.
