Background: Transoral CO(2) laser microsurgery (TLM) resection of laryngeal-hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas has become a standard procedure. The objective was to evaluate whether there is a relationship between TLM and a higher incidence of distant metastases.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 340 consecutive patients with laryngeal or hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma treated with TLM.
Results: Distant metastases occurred in 24 of 340 (7.1%) patients. The mean time of distant metastases diagnosis was 19.1 months (range, 1-41) postsurgery. Univariate study demonstrated an association with alcoholism (p = .008), tumor site (p<.001), grade of differentiation (p = .032), stage (p<.001), tumor classification (T; p = .001), node involvement (N; p<.001), extracapsular node spread (p<.001), and positive surgical margin (p = .004). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, location (sinus piriform: OR = 15.37, p = .025), node involvement (N2: OR = 7.36, p = .003; N3: OR = 19.28, p = .027), and the affected surgical margin (OR 5.32; p = .005) predicted an increased likelihood of distant metastases.
Conclusions: Development of distant metastases after TLM in patients with squamous cell carcinoma depends mainly on the tumor site, the presence of metastatic lymph node disease, and the margin status after resection.

Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is one of the rarest malignant neoplasms of the human endocrine system, with a prevalence of approximately 0.005% of all oncological diseases. Despite its indolent course, PC generally relapses in about 40%-60% of cases.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC)originates from the epithelial cells of the intrahepatic bile ducts, with insidious onset and strong invasiveness, and most of the cases are found in the advanced stage, with extremely poor prognosis. In advanced stages, distant metastases to the lungs, bones, and brain are common, but distant soft tissue (subcutaneous and skeletal muscle) and breast metastases are rare, and simultaneous metastases to all three rare sites had not been reported. We report a 69-year-old woman with right upper abdominal pain who underwent a plain and enhanced CT scan of the upper abdomen, which revealed an intrahepatic space-occupying lesion, as well as subcutaneous and peritoneal nodules in the abdomen.

Purpose//objectives: A disproportionate incidence's increase of rectal cancer in patients younger than 50 years of age. The ESMO and NCCN recommendations are not age-specific and the literature is poor and conflicting. We decided to examine patients with rectal cancer treated in our centre in the last 15 years with curative neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy comparing outcomes in the two groups under and over 55 years old.

Objective: To assess pathological characteristics, clinical features and outcomes of patients diagnosed with peripheral zone (PZ) and transition zone (TZ) prostate cancer after prostatectomy.
Methods And Analysis: We systematically reviewed PubMed, EMBASE and MEDLINE. Primary endpoints were biochemical relapse-free survival (bRFS) and distant metastases rate; secondary endpoints included clinical and pathological features.

Colorectal cancer with gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) carcinoma histopathology is particularly rare in very elderly patients. GALT is characterized by submucosal localization and prominent lymphoid infiltration with germinal center formation within tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. This study aims to report a case of colorectal cancer with GALT carcinoma histopathology in a very elderly patient and to provide a comprehensive literature review.
