One hundred and seventy six children who had received cochlear implants at one centre in the UK were followed up for five years post-implant. The cohort was divided into three groups by age at implant. 1: Under three years of age; 2: Between three and five; 3: Over five. Their mode of communication was noted at four key intervals - pre-implant; 1, 3 and 5 years post-implant. It was classified as either oral or sign. By five years post-implant, 83% of group 1 were using oral communication, 63.5% of group 2 and 45.1% of group 3. The results showed that the mode of communication five years post-implant is statistically related to age at implantation with more children implanted younger using an oral mode of communication (p = 0.001). Children implanted younger are more likely to change communication mode over time from sign to oral, and do so more quickly than those implanted later.

Introduction: Dental implants are routinely used to replace missing teeth. Therefore, the primary aim of the present study was to assess the single-unit implant failure rate over a period of seven years from 2015 to 2021, with a minimum of two years post-implant follow-up. The secondary aim was to identify the risk factors associated with implant failure using machine learning decision tree regression and Kaplan-Meier survival analyses.

Background: As part of Electrophysiology Predictable and Sustainable Implementation of National Registries (EP PASSION), a multi-stakeholder collaboration between the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), academic and society partners, and cardiovascular implantable electronic device manufacturers, a 5-year bradycardia lead study transitioned from a traditional post-approval study (PAS) to a real-world data (RWD) approach using a novel method to evaluate chronic cardiac lead complications.
Methods: Lead complications were identified using a combination of diagnosis and procedure codes from 2013 to 2020 fee-for-service Medicare claims data along with BIOTRONIK device registration and Medical Device Reporting data from patients implanted between 2013 and 2015 with a Solia S lead. A proof-of-concept analysis was performed using McNemar's test to compare lead complications reported in the traditional PAS with lead complications identified in the RWD.

Background: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) periprosthetic infections after breast augmentation procedures are increasingly common worldwide and should raise suspicion after empirical antimicrobial therapy fails but clinical signs of infection persist. In this case experience, the authors suggest the use of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) for NTM-infected wounds to obtain a faster periprosthetic space closure, shorten healing time, and anticipate breast reimplantation.
Case Report: This case report describes the successful application of NPWT to manage wound healing after breast removal in a 60-year-old female who underwent secondary breast augmentation 7 years before.

Purpose: To evaluate the performance and clinical outcome of vertical and horizontal bone augmentation (VHBA) in posterior maxillary regions combining lateral window sinus floor elevation (LWSFE) with a horizontal bone shell technique applying the maxillary facial sinus wall as a bone plate.
Materials And Methods: In 18 patients, LWSFE was combined with a horizontal bone shield augmentation procedure utilizing the maxillary facial sinus bone wall as a lateral bone plate. Both the sinus cavity and the lateral bone box created were grafted with a mixture of autogenous bone/venous blood and bovine bone mineral.

Background: Fibrous dysplasia is generally rare, and even rarer in older adults. Special care is needed when altering the alveolar bone in these cases, especially if an implant is involved. This case study highlights such a scenario.
