Background: There has been an increase in both primary anatomic (aTSA) and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) over the last decade, with rates peaking for patients aged 75 years and older. Despite aTSA being the mainstay of treatment for patients with glenohumeral arthritis in the absence of rotator cuff insufficiency, there has been an upward trend of rTSA utilization in the elderly due to concerns about rotator cuff integrity, regardless of deformity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate outcomes including pain, function, range of motion, satisfaction, and complications in patients 80 years or older following primary anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for osteoarthritis without full thickness rotator cuff tears.

Acute pancreatitis is a common condition with a variable prognosis. While the overall mortality rate of acute pancreatitis is relatively low, ranging between 3 and 5% in most cases, severe forms can result in significantly higher morbidity and mortality. Therefore, early risk assessment is crucial for optimizing management and treatment.

The Cox-Maze IV (CMIV) procedure is the mainstay in surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), but the rate of AF recurrence after the CMIV procedure in patients with persistent AF is difficult to accurately evaluate. In this study, we aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model of AF recurrence within 1 year after undergoing the Cox-Maze IV procedure. We retrospectively enrolled 303 consecutive patients who underwent the Cox-Maze IV procedure for persistent AF concomitant with other cardiac procedures at our institute between 2019 and 2021.

Despite significant global reductions in cases of pneumonia during the last 3 decades, pneumonia remains the leading cause of post-neonatal mortality in children aged <5 years. Beyond the immediate disease burden it imposes, pneumonia contributes to long-term morbidity, including lung function deficits and bronchiectasis. Viruses are the most common cause of childhood pneumonia, but bacteria also play a crucial role.

Access to FTS and XTS is limited. For pharmacists who are willing to sell an FTS, there is little guidance about how to implement FTS sales and counseling as no training for community pharmacists regarding FTS and XTS exists.
