An efficient and general synthesis of aziridines by the reaction of imines derived from p-toluenesulfonamides with in situ generated iodomethyllithium, with a simple and rapid experimental protocol, is reported for the first time. The reaction with the chiral aldimine derived from phenylalaninal allowed access to (2R,1'S)-2-(1'-aminoalkyl)aziridine with very high diastereoselectivity, in enantiopure form. A mechanism to explain this novel reaction is proposed.

Eudesmane-type sesquiterpene lactone isoalantolactone 1 is of great interest due to its availability, biological activity and synthetic application. Respective series of original spirocyclic (11S,5') (1,2,3-triazoline-eudesma-4,15-enolides) and (11S)-aziridine-eudesma-4,15-enolides were efficiently synthesized via a chemoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of organic azides to the exocyclic double bond of the lactone ring of isoalantolactone or 13E-(aryl)isoalantolactones by heating in DMF or toluene. The thermal reactions of isoalantolactone with benzyl azide, 2-azidoethanol, or n-butyl azide in 2-methoxyethanol afforded 13-(alkyamino)isoalantolactones formed as a mixture of (Z) and (E)-isomers.

Lipids are indispensable components of living organisms and play pivotal roles in cell-membrane fluidity, energy provision, and neurotransmitter transmission and transport. Lipids can act as potential biomarkers of diseases given their abilities to indicate cell-growth status. For example, the lipid-metabolism processes of cancer cells are distinct from those of normal cells owing to their rapid proliferation and adaptation to ever-changing biological environments.

We describe a metal-free aziridination of unactivated olefins to generate pyridinium aziridines. Subsequent cross-coupling affords -aryl aziridines, and reductive depyridylation affords N-H aziridines. Kinetics experiments, based on a variable time normalization analysis (VTNA), indicate that aziridination proceeds via a highly electrophilic -pyridinium iminoiodinane intermediate.

Background: Protein disulfide isomerase 1 (PDIA1) and 3 (PDIA3) regulate platelet activation and thrombus formation. However, their role in the formation of platelet-derived extracellular vesicles (pEVs) remains unknown.
Aim: To characterise the effects of PDIA1 and PDIA3 inhibition on pEV formation in washed murine platelets in response to platelet glycoprotein VI (GPVI) receptor or intracellular calcium signal activation.
