Observation of O Molecules Inserting into Fe-H Bonds in a Ferrous Metal-Organic Framework.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

MOE Key Laboratory of Bioinorganic and Synthetic Chemistry, GBRCE for Functional Molecular Engineering, School of Chemistry, IGCME, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou 510275, China.

Exploring the interactions between oxygen molecules and metal sites has been a significant topic. Most previous studies concentrated on enzyme-mimicking metal sites interacting with O to form M-OO species, leaving the development of new types of O-activating metal sites and novel adsorption mechanisms largely overlooked. In this study, we reported an Fe(II)-doped metal-organic framework (MOF) [FeZnH(bibtz)] (, Hbibtz = 1,1'-5,5'-bibenzo[][1,2,3]triazole), featuring an unprecedented tetrahedral Fe(II)HN site.

The study evaluated the application of a novel high-pressure microbial inactivation method combining dense carbon dioxide with modified atmosphere packaging on organic fresh-cut squash (Cucurbita moschata). Approximately 4 g or 32 g of squash was packed in plastic pouches filled with CO to test two different gas-to-product ratios and treated with the high-pressure method at previously optimized process conditions (45 °C, 6.0 MPa and 40 min).

Chemical Transformation of Vaping Emissions under Indoor Atmospheric Aging Processes.

Chem Res Toxicol

January 2025

Department of Environmental Sciences, University of California, Riverside, California 92521, United States.

E-cigarette emissions, which contain a variety of hazardous compounds, contribute significantly to indoor air pollution and raise concerns about secondhand exposure to vaping byproducts. Compared to fresh vape emissions, our understanding of chemically aged products in indoor environments remains incomplete. Terpenes are commonly used as flavoring agents in e-liquids, which have the ability to react with the dominant indoor oxidant ozone (O) to produce reactive oxygenated byproducts and result in new particle formation.

The correlation between poverty and air pollution in the contiguous United States is a widely debated issue, often suggesting that impoverished areas suffer higher pollution levels due to socioeconomic disparities. However, existing studies frequently lack the integration of advanced analytical techniques and fail to account for a comprehensive range of variables. This research paper addresses these gaps by employing sophisticated machine learning models to analyze an extensive dataset encompassing various socioeconomic and environmental metrics.

Study Objectives: Reversal of warfarin-induced anticoagulation using prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC4) is more rapidly achieved than with traditional methods such as fresh frozen plasma (FFP). In many rural facilities the availability of both FFP and PCC4 has been limited. A tertiary hospital instituted a program to provide PCC4 to rural sites using an air transport team and pharmacy exchange.
