Dual-color co-filamentation in Argon.

Published: September 2008

We investigate both experimentally and theoretically the mechanisms driving the co-filamentation of two ultrashort laser pulses at 800 and 400 nm in Argon. The cross-Kerr lens and cross-phase modulation between the two filaments of different colors bridging both the continuum spectra and the plasma channels induced by the individual pulses. This dual-color filamentation also results in the simultaneous generation of two few-cycle pulses at both 800 and 400 nm, providing a potential way to generate attosecond pulses.

Aims: While it is widely accepted that intravenous (IV) iron improves functional capacity, symptoms, and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) diagnosed with iron deficiency (ID), three recently published cardiovascular outcome trials (AFFIRM-AHF, IRONMAN and HEART-FID) of IV iron supplementation in HF failed to demonstrate a significant benefit on their respective primary endpoints. Dosing of IV iron after the initial correction of baseline ID - by design or as a result of trial circumstances - was relatively low (i.e.

Aluminium and its alloys, especially Al6061, have gathered significant interest among researchers due to its less density, great durability, and high strength. Due to their lightweight properties, the precise machining of these alloys can become expensive through conventional machining operations for intricate products. Therefore, non-traditional machining such as electric discharge machining (EDM) can potentially be opted for the cutting of Al6061.

Novel coumarin-triphenyliminophosphorane (TPIPP) fluorophores, synthesized via a nonhydrolytic Staudinger reaction, exhibit remarkable redox-responsive optical properties. Upon chemical and electrochemical oxidation, these compounds display a hypsochromic shift in absorption from 430 to 350 nm, accompanied by up to 11-fold fluorescence enhancement under 405 nm excitation. The fluorescence switching occurs at an electrochemical oxidation potential of approximately +2.

: Heart failure (HF) constitutes a complex clinical syndrome that is highly prevalent worldwide, comprises a serious prognosis, and results in a reduced quality of life. Exercise capacity is one of the most significant parameters involved in the prognosis in HF patients. Our objective was to evaluate the relationship between the selected cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) parameters and the concentration of novel biomarker sST2 in a group of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Characterization of gene-environment interactions for vitamin D through variance quantitative trait loci: a UK Biobank-based genetic epidemiology study.

Am J Clin Nutr

January 2025

Division of Biostatistics, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada; Division of Epidemiology, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada; Genetics and Genome Biology, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON, Canada.

Background: Understanding gene-environment interactions associated with vitamin D status may refine nutrition and public health strategies for vitamin D deficiency. Recent methodological advances have enabled the identification of variance quantitative trait loci (vQTLs) where gene-environment interactions are enriched.

Objectives: To identify vQTLs for serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25OHD) concentrations and characterize potential gene-environment interactions of vQTLs.
