Purpose: To count in the Belgian ambulatory prescription database Pharmanet, the number of elderly people treated with ACE inhibitors (ACEI) and/or angiotensine receptor blockers (ARB) (+/-diuretics +/- beta-blockers) who eventually also received a prescription of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) or spironolactone.
Method: All prescriptions dispensed in community pharmacies are collected in the Pharmanet database. The data of 2005 were used. Two age groups were studied: 65-79 years (label 1) and 80+ years (label 2). The following chronic treatments (subgroups) were studied: (A) ACEI/ARB; (B) ACEI/ARB + diuretics; (C) ACEI/ARB + spironolactone; (D) ACEI/ARB + beta-blocker + diuretic and (E) ACEI/ARB + beta-blocker + spironolactone.
Results: In 2005, 7.3% of Belgian population was chronically treated with ACEI/ARB. Twenty-five per cent of 65-79 year-old-patients (subgroup A1) and 36.15% of 80+ year-old-patients (subgroup A2) received ACEI/ARB. At least one package of NSAID or spironolactone was prescribed to subgroup A1 in 25.44 and 5.80%, respectively, and to subgroup A2 in 22.04 and 9.89%, respectively. In all studied subgroups and age categories, NSAID were coprecribed in more than 20-35% of cases.
Conclusions: NSAID are frequently prescribed in elderly patients treated with ACEI or ARB in combination with diuretics. Severe renal adverse effects may result in this high-risk population.

Background And Hypothesis: Daprodustat, an oral hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor, is approved for treatment of anemia in dialysis patients with CKD in some parts of the world. This subgroup analysis examined the efficacy and safety of daprodustat versus darbepoetin alfa in patients with anemia of CKD undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD).
Methods: ASCEND-D (NCT02879305) was an open-label, Phase 3 trial; patients with CKD were randomized to daprodustat daily and epoetin alfa (HD patients) or darbepoetin alfa (PD patients).

Road traffic injuries are one of the main causes of death among children. In recent years, the incidence and casualty rates of traffic accidents have increased year by year, which is a major challenge faced by safety organizations and governments in various countries, especially in developing countries. Among them, correct understanding of road traffic signs is a factor in reducing accidents.

In recent years, scholars have theorized that one factor enflaming public divides over science and technology is moralization: an individual's perception that their position on an issue is rooted in fundamental moral right and wrong. In this article, I provide evidence for this proposition across five pre-registered hypotheses about the divisive attributes of moralized attitudes in the context of science and technology. Using public opinion data in the United States on three issues-combating climate change, developing gene editing therapies for humans, and labeling genetically modified food-this study demonstrates that moralized attitudes have the potential to exacerbate resistance to scientific evidence and hostility between those with opposing positions.

A subgroup analysis of a randomized study demonstrated that patients with advanced or metastatic liposarcoma treated with eribulin had longer overall survival and progression-free survival compared to those treated with dacarbazine, suggesting eribulin as a therapeutic option for advanced liposarcoma. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of eribulin versus dacarbazine in the treatment of advanced liposarcoma. We established a 10-year Markov model to compare the cost-effectiveness of eribulin and dacarbazine regimens.

Blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction is suggested to be a potential mediator between vascular risk factors and cognitive impairment, leading to vascular cognitive impairment. To investigate the relationships between age, sex, and vascular risk factors and BBB water permeability as well as their relationship with cognition. To measure BBB permeability, a novel arterial spin labelling MRI technique (ME-ASL) was applied to derive the time of exchange (Tex), arterial time transit (ATT), and cerebral blood flow (CBF).
