A simple expression is given for the k-function associated with the general solution of Stavroudis to the eikonal equation for refraction or reflection of a plane wave from an arbitrary surface. Using this result, we specialize the solution to derive analytic expressions for the wavefront and caustic surfaces after refraction of a plane wave from any rotationally symmetric surface. The method is applied to evaluating and comparing the wavefront and caustic surfaces formed both by a planospherical lens and a planoaspheric lens used for laser beam shaping, which provides understanding of how the irradiance is redistributed over a beam as the wavefront folds back on itself within the focal region.

InSb is a material of choice for infrared as well as spintronic devices but its integration on large lattice mismatched semi-insulating III-V substrates has so far altered its exceptional properties. Here, we investigate the direct growth of InSb on InP(111)B substrates with molecular beam epitaxial growth. Despite the lack of a thick metamorphic buffer layer for accommodation, we show that quasi-continuous thin films can be achieved using a very high Sb/In flux ratio.

Dual-Grid and Mixed-Precision Methods for Accelerating Plane-Wave Hybrid Functional Electronic Structure Calculations.

Hybrid functionals that incorporate exact Hartree-Fock exchange (HFX) into density functional theory (DFT) are crucial for accurately predicting the electronic structures of extended systems in condensed-matter physics and materials science. Although the exact exchange contributes only a small fraction of the total energy, HFX calculations in hybrid functionals demand significant computational resources. Here, we introduce dual-grid and mixed-precision techniques, based on two low-rank approximations, adaptively compressed exchange (ACE) and interpolative separable density fitting (ISDF) methods, to significantly improve the computational efficiency of plane-wave hybrid functional calculations in the software package PWDFT (plane wave density functional theory).

In this Letter, we present a novel, to the best of our knowledge, approach for recovering objects directly from the Fraunhofer diffraction integral, where the diffraction field of an object is approximated by the Fourier transform of this object augmented by an additional phase factor. This phase factor at the observation plane is universal for the diffraction fields generated by objects located at the same plane and illuminated by the same monochromatic plane wave. It can be first extracted from dividing the Fraunhofer diffraction field by the Fourier transform of an object reference.

Objective: Conventional coherent plane wave compounding (CPWC) and sum-of-square power Doppler (PD) estimation lead to low contrast and high noise level in ultrafast PD imaging when the number of plane-wave angle and the ensemble length is limited. The coherence-based PD estimation using temporal-multiply-and-sum (TMAS) of high-lag autocorrelation can effectively suppress the uncorrelated noises but at the cost of signal power due to the blood flow decorrelation.

Methods: In this study, the TMAS PD estimation is incorporated with complementary subset transmit in nonlinear compounding (DMAS-CST) to leverage the signal coherence in both angular and temporal dimensions for improvement of PD image quality.

Full Quantum Dynamics Study for H Atom Scattering from Graphen.

Université Paris-Saclay, CNRS, Institut des Sciences Moléculaires d'Orsay UMR 8214, 91405 Orsay, France.

This study deals with the understanding of hydrogen atom scattering from graphene, a process critical for exploring C-H bond formation and energy transfer during atom surface collision. In our previous work [Shi, L.; 2023, 159, 194102], starting from a cell with 24 carbon atoms treated periodically, we have achieved quantum dynamics (QD) simulations with a reduced-dimensional model (15D) and a simulation in full dimensionality (75D).
