A 44-year-old female undergoing radiofrequency ablation in the right ventricular outflow tract for symptomatic, frequent premature ventricular contractions developed stress cardiomyopathy (Tako-Tsubo). Stress cardiomyopathy was probably due to hyperadrenergic state induced by the procedure itself, dobutamine infusion, sympathetic nerve stimulation at the ablation site, and parasympathetic withdrawal with atropine administration.

In one of the earliest reports from China during COVID-19, it was noted that over 20% of patients hospitalized with the disease had significant elevations of troponin, a marker of myocardial tissue damage, that put them at a higher risk. In a hypothesis-independent whole exome sequencing (WES) study in hospitalized COVID-19 patients of diverse ancestry, we observed putative enrichment in pathogenic variants in genes known to be involved in the pathogenesis of cardiomyopathy. This observation led us to hypothesize that the observed high morbidity and mortality in these patients might be due to the presence of rare genetic factors that had previously been silent but became relevant as a consequence of the severe stress inflicted by an infection with SARS-CoV-2.

Cardiac diseases remain one of the leading causes of death globally, often linked to ischemic conditions that can affect cellular homeostasis and metabolism, which can lead to the development of cardiovascular dysfunction. Considering the effect of ischemic cardiomyopathy on the global population, it is vital to understand the impact of ischemia on cardiac cells and how ischemic conditions change different cellular functions through post-translational modification of cellular proteins. : To understand the cellular function and fine-tuning during stress, we established an ischemia model using neonatal rat ventricular cardiomyocytes.

While earlier post-mortem studies show involvement of the central nervous system in 71% of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), involvement intravitam is rare. A 72-year-old man with untreated, minimally symptomatic CLL developed subacute-onset encephalopathy and presented with severe hyponatremia and stress-induced cardiomyopathy. His initial head computed tomography scan was unremarkable.

Background And Purpose: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) exert cardiovascular benefits in diabetic patients, but the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Semaglutide, a novel long-acting GLP-1RA, has shown a reduced risk of cardiovascular events. Based on these results, we investigated the therapeutic potential of semaglutide in diabetic cardiomyopathy and sought to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
