Deciding how to choose from opposing options often seriously impacts people's final selections. Such constraining options are frequently associated with feelings of hopelessness, depression, or chronic pain. As an example of such situations, a model is presented with material from a single case that utilized previous contradictory experiences in the treatment of a woman patient who suffers from chronic pelvic pain. The case summarizes how previous experiences, which have been paradoxical, can serve as substrates of behavioral change, which in turn can emerge in a way that allows the patient to integrate these experiences, personally and slowly, without conscious effort.

Status epilepticus is linked to cognitive decline due to damage to the hippocampus, a key structure involved in cognition. The hippocampus's high vulnerability to epilepsy-related damage is the main reason for this impairment. Convulsive seizures, such as those observed in status epilepticus, can cause various hippocampal pathologies, including inflammation, abnormal neurogenesis, and neuronal death.

A prospective, randomized, blinded experiment was conducted to compare the effects of intranasal (IN) dexmedetomidine (Dex, 10 µg/kg; n=12) alone or combined with midazolam (DexM, 0.3 mg/kg; n=12) or ketamine (DexK, 2 mg/kg; n=12) in healthy dogs. Ease of administration (EA1), total administration time (TAT), time for first (TA1) and second nostril administration (TA2), and adverse events during atomization were recorded.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant public health issue, often resulting from traffic accidents and falls, leading to a wide spectrum of outcomes from mild concussions to severe brain damage. The neurorehabilitation of TBI focuses on enhancing recovery and improving quality of life. Zolpidem, traditionally used for short-term management of insomnia, has shown potential in improving cognitive functions and language in TBI patients.

Background: During the anesthetic-induced loss of responsiveness (LOR), a "paradoxical excitation" with activation of β-frequencies in the electroencephalogram (EEG) can be observed. Thus, spectral parameters-as widely used in commercial anesthesia monitoring devices-may mistakenly indicate that patients are awake when they are actually losing responsiveness. Nonlinear time-domain parameters such as permutation entropy (PeEn) may analyze additional EEG information and appropriately reflect the change in cognitive state during the transition.
