A type of polysaccharide-polypeptide hybrid material, chitin derivative with polypeptide side chains was prepared by the graft copolymerization of L-leucine N-carboxyanhydride triggered by water-soluble chitin (WSC). The studies on surface tension and aggregation demonstrated surface activity of WSC. Using this extraordinary property, the microspheres were synchronously obtained via interfacial polymerization. The method employed here to form the microspheres was in direct contrast to previous syntheses that used either templating method or oil-in-water emulsion. The study provided a facile approach for synthesizing microspheres with a variety of distinct polypeptide and regulated graft length, which had mimetic structure of glycoconjugation in extracellular matrix. Furthermore, the swelling capability of the microsphere in both acidic aqueous and organic solvents would give promising application in drug delivery.

Development of high-performance electrocatalysts for water splitting is crucial for a sustainable hydrogen economy. In this study, rapid heating of ruthenium(III) acetylacetonate by magnetic induction heating (MIH) leads to the one-step production of Ru-RuO₂/C nanocomposites composed of closely integrated Ru and RuO₂ nanoparticles. The formation of Mott-Schottky heterojunctions significantly enhances charge transfer across the Ru-RuO interface leading to remarkable electrocatalytic activities toward both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in 1 m KOH.

The single-atom skeletal editing technology is an efficient method for constructing molecular skeletons, which has broad coverage in synthetic chemistry. However, its potential in the preparation of energetic heterocyclic molecules is grossly underexplored. In this work, an unexpected one-step reaction for the synthesis of novel energetic molecules was discovered which combines single-atom skeletal editing, -dinitromethyl functionalization, and zwitterionization in one step.

Unidirectional moisture-conducting fabrics were prepared by electrospraying polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) onto three green fabric substrates, namely cotton, hemp, and modal. Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of coating thickness, coating material, and substrate material on the moisture conductivity of the fabrics. The electrospraying technique was effective in forming uniform and strongly adhered PVDF and PVC coatings on the fabric substrates, and the coating thickness and material type had a significant effect on the fabric's moisture conductivity.

The remarkable flexibility in structural tunability and designability of poly(ionic liquids) (PILs) has garnered significant attention. Integration of PILs with membranes, novel properties, and functionalities is anticipated for applications in the fields of membrane separation. Here, we develop a facile method to prepare PIL-functionalized membranes in a one-step process by combining selective swelling-induced pore generation and ionic liquid functionalization.
