Objective: To review psychiatrists' attitudes and actual practice on the use of typical and atypical antipsychotics in the elderly.
Methods: Audit data were collected from 18-old-age psychiatry units across Australia. The attitudes of old age psychiatrists and their perceptions of the efficacy, tolerability and clinical usefulness of antipsychotics were examined.
Results: The medications used for 321 patients were audited, and the attitudes of the 57 prescribing doctors were assessed. All available atypicals were prescribed and reported as more efficacious and clinically useful than typicals. Adverse events perceived by doctors as an obstacle to prescribing were more frequent than reported adverse event rates in product information. All diagnostic groups improved. Off-label use comprised almost 22% in this sample.
Conclusions: Adverse events are impediments to prescribing, more so with typical than atypical antipsychotics. All available atypicals were used and appeared effective in this elderly population.

We present the case of a 42-year-old Indian male with prurigo nodularis, exhibiting multiple verrucous, brownish-black nodules on the left lower and right upper extremities, with milder involvement of the right lower extremity. The lesions were asymmetrically distributed in a near-linear pattern, with prominent white hyperkeratosis and associated moderate pruritus and paresthesia. Differential diagnoses included pemphigoid nodularis, verruca vulgaris, and hypertrophic lichen planus, with a biopsy confirming prurigo nodularis.

Child-directed speech (CDS), which amplifies acoustic and social features of speech during interactions with young children, promotes typical phonetic and language development. In autism, both behavioral and brain data indicate reduced sensitivity to human speech, which predicts absent, decreased, or atypical benefits of exaggerated speech signals such as CDS. This study investigates the impact of exaggerated fundamental frequency (F0) and voice-onset time on the neural processing of speech sounds in 22 Chinese-speaking autistic children aged 2-7 years old with a history of speech delays, compared with 25 typically developing (TD) peers.

The objective of this report is to highlight its unusual findings on MRI including internal capsule, brainstem, cerebellum involvement; subependymal nodular heterotopia, subependymal cysts, cortical laminar necrosis along with typical findings of megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy and subcortical cysts. The study also underscores the clinical implications of this complex pathology, with emphasis on comprehensive neuroradiological evaluation for atypical presentations to guide better diagnostic and management outcomes.
