Levonorgestrel (1.5 mg) is commonly used for emergency contraception to prevent an unwanted pregnancy after an unprotected intercourse. We found that postovulatory administration of 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel to women with a subsequent or existing early pregnancy did not affect the immunohistochemical expressions of estrogen receptors (ER(alpha), ER(beta)), P receptors (PR(B), PR(A+B)), androgen receptor (AR), or proliferation index Ki67 in the first-trimester decidua and chorionic villi.

Recent advances in the use of trophoblast stem cells and organoid models have markedly enhanced our understanding of placental development and function. These models offer significant improvements over previous systems due to their extended viability in culture and capacity to replicate various trophoblast functions, such as extravillous trophoblast invasion, syncytialisation and 3D architecture. Initially, the generation of trophoblast organoids was confined to first trimester placental tissue; however, it was recently reported that term placentae can also serve as a source of trophoblast stem cells.

Placental growth is most rapid during the first trimester (FT) of pregnancy, making it vulnerable to metabolic and endocrine influences. Obesity, with its inflammatory and oxidative stress, can cause cellular damage. We hypothesized that maternal obesity increases DNA damage in the FT placenta, affecting DNA damage response and trophoblast turnover.

Introduction: Although appendicitis occurs in approximately 1:1000 pregnancies, appendiceal neuroendocrine neoplasm (ANEN) diagnosis during pregnancy is very rare. Data on presentation, treatment and prognosis is scarce.
Aim: To describe ANEN cases diagnosed during pregnancy.

Objectives: Placental implantation anomalies in first-trimester abortions may determine severe bleeding leading to hysterectomy. There are very few cases of urgent hysterectomy post-abortion reported in the literature, related to placenta accreta spectrum, but in any of them is considered association with benign trophoblastic lesions.
Methods: We report the case of a woman, who underwent surgical voluntary abortion by vacuum aspiration during first trimester, without any apparent surgical complications.
