Background: Glioma is the most common type of malignant brain tumor and the prognosis of glioma is still poor. Moreover, the prognosis of patients diagnosed with grade III gliomas varies significantly. In this study, we assessed the factors that contribute to the prognosis of patients with grade III gliomas.

Methods: Data from 97 patients with grade III glioma who received surgery from 2000 to 2005 were included in this study. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox regression analysis were used to analyze the prognostic effects of 16 different factors selected from clinical characteristics, results from neuroimaging and pathological examinations, as well as different treatment schemes.

Results: The results indicated that age, preoperative Karnofsky Performance Scale score, extent of tumor invasion, tumor resection degree, residual tumor shown by postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy all correlated with patient prognosis. Furthermore, Cox multivariate analysis also showed the age (P < 0.01), extent of tumor invasion (P < 0.01), residual tumor shown by postoperative MRI (P < 0.05), and postoperative radiotherapy (P < 0.05) significantly correlated with patients' prognosis.

Conclusions: Age, postoperative radiotherapy and residual tumor indicated by MRI after surgery correlated significantly with the prognosis of patients with grade III glioma. The extent of tumor invasion may be an independent prognostic factor for patients with grade III glioma.

Introduction: Mandibular condylar fractures are among the most common facial fractures and its incidence has been rising since the past few decades. Although various approaches for management of mandibular condylar fractures have been described in literature there is a gap in the published literature when it comes to comparison of these approaches. There have only been a handful of studies which have compared use of Retromandibular Transparotid against Retromandibular anteroparotid approach in management of mandibular condylar fractures with conflicting results.

Y-shaped venous anastomosis combined with free flap for the treatment of complex craniofacial trauma.

J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg

Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University, 563000 China; The Collaborative Innovation Center of Tissue, Damage Repair and Regeneration Medicine of Zunyi Medical University, 563000 China. Electronic address:

Background: Complex craniofacial trauma is defined as those traumatic injuries that are not responding to initial treatment and may involve chronic infection, tissue exposure, and soft tissue contusions. Typical reconstruction using a Y-shaped microvascular venous anastomotic free flap is labor intensive. Although free flap grafts have been used in many applications, their use for combined microvascular anastomotic therapy remains an unexplored but attractive possibility.

Background And Objectives: Low-birth weight, premature infants often have severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), which can result in posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH), sometimes requiring cerebrospinal fluid diversion. Initial temporizing management of PHH includes placement of a ventriculosubgaleal shunt (VSGS) or ventricular access device (VAD). Studies have found similar permanent shunt conversion rates between VSGS and VAD but were limited by sample scope and size.

Risk factors for delayed gastric emptying after pancreatoduodenectomy: a 10-year retrospective study.

Ann Med

December 2025

Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Unit of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Abdominal Organ Transplantation, Doce de Octubre University Hospital, Instituto de Investigación (imas12), Complutense University, Madrid, Spain.

Background: Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) is a frequent complication of pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and is associated with prolonged hospital stay, readmission, increased hospital costs and decreased quality of life. However, the pathophysiology of DGE remains unclear.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients who underwent PD for pancreatic or periampullary tumours.

Purpose: We designed a study investigating the cardioprotective role of sleep apnea (SA) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), focusing on its association with infarct size and coronary collateral circulation.

Methods: We recruited adults with AMI, who underwent Level-III SA testing during hospitalization. Delayed-enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging was performed to quantify AMI size (percent-infarcted myocardium).
