Methods for drift stabilization and photomultiplier linearization for photometric ellipsometers and polarimeters.

We describe simple modifications to photometric polarimeter and ellipsometer systems that greatly reduce nonlinearity, component drift, and digital noise effects. A photomultiplier feedback circuit is described and analyzed that varies the effective system linearity by means of a single control. Linearity to 5 x 10(-4) over more than three orders of magnitude of incident light intensity is obtained. Effective double-beam stability to 5 x 10(-5) is achieved by blocking the source intensity over part of an extended measurement cycle. These refinements permit photometric instruments to approach accuracy capabilities compatible with their precision capabilities, and also allow measurements to be made in the presence of ambient scattered light, at high sample temperatures, or using solid-state detectors for which the zero reference is not well defined. As an example, we give the dielectric function of Ge measured from 1.5 to 5.8 eV at a sample temperature of 800 degrees C.

Here, a quenching strategy was developed to create oxygen vacancies in Cu doped α-MnO. The evolutions of oxygen vacancies were directly followed by means of XRD refinement, EPR and XPS. In combination with DFT calculations and detailed characterizations, evidence is captured that oxygen vacancies not only act as direct sites for the adsorption and activation of gaseous oxygen and toluene, but also accelerate the consumption and replenishment cycle of lattice oxygen species by weakening the strength of metal-oxygen bonds.

We test here the prediction capabilities of the new generation of deep learning predictors in the more challenging situation of multistate multidomain proteins by using as a case study a coiled-coil family of Nucleotide-binding Oligomerization Domain-like (NOD-like) receptors from and a few extra examples for reference. Results reveal a truly remarkable ability of these platforms to correctly predict the 3D structure of modules that fold in well-established topologies. A lower performance is noticed in modeling morphing regions of these proteins, such as the coiled coils.

Ultrasonic impedance-based liquid-level measurement is a crucial non-contact, non-destructive technique. Combining automation and expertise: A semi-automated approach to correcting eye-tracking data in reading tasks.

In reading tasks, drift can move fixations from one word to another or even another line, invalidating the eye-tracking recording. Manual correction is time-consuming and subjective, while automated correction is fast - yet limited in accuracy. In this paper, we present Fix8 (Fixate), an open-source GUI tool that offers a novel semi-automated correction approach for eye-tracking data in reading tasks.
