Comparison of Biomarkers Playing a Role in Pterygium Development in Pterygium and Recurrent Pterygium Tissues.

Diagnostics (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques, Ataturk Vocational School of Health Services, Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University, 03030 Afyonkarahisar, Turkey.

Pterygium is a nonneoplastic elastotic degeneration characterized by subepithelial growth. It manifests as an ocular lesion originating from the bulbar conjunctiva, extending to the corneal surface, and reaching the visual axis in some cases. Although the exact cause is unknown, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation is considered the most significant contributing factor.

Article Synopsis
  • Rhodamine B (RDB) is a toxic dye linked to health issues like cancer and neurological disorders, yet it's still used illegally as a food additive, necessitating a reliable detection method.
  • The study utilized a magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) method with iron oxide nanoparticles coated with tetra ethoxy silane and polydopamine to effectively measure low levels of RDB in water samples.
  • The optimized MSPE method showed high sensitivity, low detection limits (0.73 μg L), and excellent recovery rates (96.9% to 98.6%) across various water samples, making it a promising tool for identifying RDB in real-world applications.

Background/objectives: We aimed to assess the antifungal efficacy and impact of a denture cleanser containing extract on the surface characteristics of denture base materials, as well as its physical and biological properties.

Methods: The experimental denture cleansers were formulated with at concentrations of 100 and 150 μg/mL, combined with 1% cocamidopropyl betaine as a natural surfactant. Antifungal efficacy was evaluated using zone-of-inhibition assays against , revealing inhibition zones of 20 ± 1.

The present study aimed to prepare nanofibrous inserts for sustained ocular drug delivery of Azithromycin (AZM) toward conquering the obstacles of conventional topical drug delivery. Nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning using polycaprolactone (PCL) and cellulose acetate (CA) which are biocompatible and biodegradable polymers. Prepared nanofibers were evaluated in terms of physicochemical, morphological properties, pharmacokinetic study and ocular irritation.
