Objective: To explore factors of the patient with lumbago seeking for acupuncture treatment and to observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture at early days.

Methods: The factors of the patient with lumbago seeking for acupuncture treatment were investigated by questionnaire in 45 cases of lumbago. The patients enrolled were treated by acupuncture and moxibustion for 1-2 sessions with Shenshu (BL 23), Dachangshu (BL 25), Mingmen (GV 4), Yaoyangguan (GV 3) selected. Changes of pain, restlessness score and ODI before and after treatment were used for assessment of clinical therapeutic effect at early days.

Results: Recommendation (12 cases, 26.7%), believing Chinese medicine (10 cases, 22.2%), reputation of hospital (6 cases, 13.3%), public praise of doctors (5 cases, 11.1%) were main causes for the patient with lumbago seeking for acupuncture treatment. ODI, pain score and restlessness score were 11.0+/-7.3, 5.0+/-1.9, 4.8+/-2.1 after treatment and 12.6+/-7.7, 6.5+/-1.8, 6.7+/-2.1 before treatment, respectively, with significant differences before and after treatment (all P < 0.05). The assess ment help score before and after treatment were 7.1+/-1.5 and 7.2+/-2.3, respectively, with no significant difference before and after treatment (P>0.05).

Conclusion: Good reputation of hospital and doctors, and good public praise of acupuncture and moxibustion are main external factors for the patient with lumbago seeking for acupuncture treatment, and the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion on lumbago at early days is identical to the patient's expectation.

Background Context: Recumbent MRI is the most widely used image modality in people with low back pain (LBP), however, it has been proposed that upright (standing) MRI has advantages over recumbent MRI because of its ability to assess the effects of being weight-bearing. It has been suggested that this produces systematic differences in MRI parameters and differences in the correlation between MRI parameters and pain or disability in patients thus, potentially adding clinically helpful information.

Purpose: This paper aims to review and summarize the available empirical evidence for or against these two hypotheses.

Background: Evidence from preclinical studies suggests that IL-6 signalling has the potential to modulate immunopathogenic mechanisms upstream of autoantibody effector mechanisms in patients with generalised myasthenia gravis. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of satralizumab, a humanised monoclonal antibody targeting the IL-6 receptor, in patients with generalised myasthenia gravis.

Methods: LUMINESCE was a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, phase 3 study at 105 sites, including hospitals and clinics, globally.

Purpose Of Review: Low back pain (LBP) is considered an important issue of public health, with annual prevalence estimations almost achieving 60% of the worldwide population. Available treatments have a limited impact on this condition, although they allow to alleviate pain and recover the patient's quality of life. This review aims to go deeper on the understanding of this condition, providing an updated, brief, and concise whole picture of this common musculoskeletal problem.

Sex-Specific Sensory Profiles Discriminate Between Sensitization at Twelve Weeks in Patients with Acute Low Back Pain: A Retrospective Study.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Experimental Anatomy Research Group, Department of Physiotherapy, Human Physiology and Anatomy, Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Laarbeeklaan 103, 1090 Brussels, Belgium.

Low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of disability worldwide, resulting in enormous socio-economic and personal consequences. Sensory profiles during the acute back pain stage will predict central sensitization symptoms in the chronic pain stage, as central sensitization is the main mechanism behind nociplastic pain and pain chronicity. Therefore, our objective was to establish overall and sex-specific sensory profile cut-off points that distinguish symptoms of central sensitization at 12 weeks, using a retrospective prognostic cohort study design.

Lower back pain (LBP) is a common condition affecting primarily populations in developed countries, placing a significant burden on public health systems around the world. A high rate of pain recurrence increases the risk of developing a chronic syndrome and the occurrence of complex psychosocial and professional problems. Symptoms lasting longer than 12 weeks are associated with the risk of sleep problems, depression, and anxiety.
