Baicalin-based composite coating for achieving biological multifunctionality of vascular stents.

J Control Release

January 2025

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu 610031, PR China. Electronic address:

Vascular stents are frequently used in interventional therapy for atherosclerotic arteries. Interventional treatment with bare metal stents and drug-eluting stents has significantly reduced mortality. Restenosis and late thrombus were also major safety concerns in stent implantation.

Clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic bony Bankart repair using the 'door-locking' technique: excellent bone healing with a low complication rate.

J Shoulder Elbow Surg

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Division of Sports Medicine and Adult Reconstructive Surgery, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, The Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, 321 Zhongshan Road, Nanjing, 210008, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China; Branch of National Clinical Research Center for Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Nanjing Jiangsu, 210008, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Background: Arthroscopic repair is recommended for patients with bony Bankart lesions to restore anterior shoulder stability and avoid recurrent glenohumeral instability. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical and radiological outcomes of patients following arthroscopic bony Bankart repair using a single suture anchor fixation technique named the "door-locking" technique.

Methods: From January 2017 to February 2024, a consecutive series of 22 patients with acute bony Bankart lesions underwent shoulder arthroscopy.

Impact of thrombus composition on virtual thrombectomy procedures using human clot analogues mechanical data.

J Mech Behav Biomed Mater

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering 'Giulio Natta', Politecnico di Milano, Italy.

Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) aims at restoring blood flow in case of acute ischemic stroke by removing the thrombus occluding a large cerebral artery. During the procedure with stent-retriever, the thrombus is captured within the device, which is then retrieved, subjecting the thrombus to several forces, potentially leading to its fragmentation. In silico studies, along with mechanical characterisation of thrombi, can enhance our understanding of the EVT, helping the development of new devices and interventional strategies.

Purpose: This retrospective cohort study aimed to identify factors associated with preoperative deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in elderly patients with femoral neck fractures, and to investigate whether combining these factors could improve the ability to predict DVT.

Method: Medical records and laboratory test results were reviewed patients presenting with a femoral neck fracture and receiving routine chemoprophylaxis for DVT between January 2020 and December 2023 in a tertiary referral, university-affiliated hospital. Preoperative DVT was confirmed by Doppler ultrasound or CT venography.

Rupture mechanics of blood clot fibrin fibers: A coarse-grained model study.

J Mech Phys Solids

March 2025

School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Georgia, Athens, GA, 30602, USA.

Thrombosis, when occurring undesirably, disrupts normal blood flow and poses significant medical challenges. As the skeleton of blood clots, fibrin fibers play a vital role in the formation and fragmentation of blood clots. Thus, studying the deformation and fracture characteristics of fibrin fiber networks is the key factor to solve a series of health problems caused by thrombosis.
