We report the case of a dichorionic-diamniotic pregnancy in which a discordance in the size of the fetuses was observed as early as the first trimester. This discordance in size was maintained over time and the two fetuses continued their respective growths. We suggest the very rare phenomenon of superfetation as a diagnosis because less than 10 cases are described in the literature. Even though a formal proof of the diagnosis is difficult to obtain, the elements described in this article rally in favor of this hypothesis. Superfetation is defined by the fertilization and the implantation of a second oocyte in a uterus already containing the product of a previous conception. After a description of the case, a review of the literature enables us to describe the frequency, the possible risk factors and the existing case reports on the subject. The rarity of this case justifies its publication for the information of clinicians.

Background: Monochorionic (MC) twins share a single placenta which can be unequally shared, leading to selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR). Limited data is available on the prevalence and clinical consequences of proximate cord insertion (PCI) in sFGR pregnancies.

: The STOP-IT randomized clinical trial (RCT) pioneered limiting antibiotic agents in intra-abdominal infection (IAI) with adequate surgical source control, but NIH funding ended before an adequate power sample size was enrolled to determine equivalence between STOP-IT study regimens: four days of antibiotic agents (4-days) after source control versus antibiotic agents until resolution of signs and symptoms of IAI plus two days (standard of care [SOC]). Background: Hazard and risk assessment of nanomaterials (NMs) face challenges due to, among others, the numerous existing nanoforms, discordant data and conflicting results found in the literature, and specific challenges in the application of strategies such as grouping and read-across, emphasizing the need for New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to support Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA). Here these challenges are addressed in a study that couples physico-chemical characterization with in vitro investigations and in silico similarity analyses for nine nanoforms, having different chemical composition, sizes, aggregation states and shapes. For cytotoxicity assessment, three methods (Alamar Blue, Colony Forming Efficiency, and Electric Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing) are applied in a cross-validation approach to support NAMs implementation into NGRA.
