Loss of vision is a threatening presentation of disease. We describe a case of acute idiopathic blind spot enlargement in a 26-year-old male traveler who presented with narrow vision after a journey to Indonesia. Although the patient used mefloquine at time of presentation, we were unable to retrieve sound data incriminating mefloquine in this rare eye disorder.

Background: Single port robotic platform offers articulation and 360° camera rotation for anorectal tumour excision in a narrow pelvic space. This study assesses the clinical usefulness and outcomes of SP robotic transanal surgery.
Methods: Nine patients who underwent transanal excision using the SP robotic platform were included.

Background: Observational studies should not be used to infer causation as they are prone to confounding factors, selection bias, and reverse causality. Many observational studies of labor analgesia treated epidurals as an independent exposure and concluded that "epidurals" cause dystocia, despite multiple randomized controlled trials showing no effect. We highlight this problem using reductio ad absurdum.

Background: Oculocutaneous albinism is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by congenital melanin deficiency, resulting in hypopigmentation of the eyes, hair, and skin. This study included a Chinese family with an oculocutaneous albinism pedigree, in which the proband presented with oculocutaneous albinismcombined with secondary angle closure, which has been rarely reported in previous literature. This article primarily focused on the clinical and genetic examination results of this patient and provided recommendations for ophthalmologist to treat patients with oculocutaneous albinism in clinical practice.

It has long been a decades-old dogma that image perception is mediated solely by rods and cones, while intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) are responsible only for non-image-forming vision, such as circadian photoentrainment and pupillary light reflexes. Surprisingly, we discovered that ipRGC activation enhances the orientation selectivity of layer 2/3 neurons in the primary visual cortex (V1) of mice by both increasing preferred-orientation responses and narrowing tuning bandwidth. Mechanistically, we found that the tuning properties of V1 excitatory and inhibitory neurons are differentially influenced by ipRGC activation, leading to a reshaping of the excitatory/inhibitory balance that enhances visual cortical orientation selectivity.

Endoscopes, a minimally invasive medical tool, are susceptible to impaired visibility due to the adhesion of biological fluids. However, traditional self-cleaning coatings face limitations in terms of transparency and sustainability, making it difficult to apply them to lenses. Inspired by the phospholipid layer of the eye, a reversible lubricating layer (RL-layer) with low-adhesion and high-transparency properties is reported.
