Background: Phase II trials and subgroup analyses of clinical studies suggest that bevacizumab plus an oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy doublet is effective and tolerable in fit older patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

Objective: To evaluate the influence of age on the incidence of side effects and efficacy of this combination in patients with mCRC randomized in the prospective phase III OBELICS study.

Methods: In total, 230 patients with Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status (PS) 0 out of 1 were retrieved on the basis of age (190 < 70 years and 40 ≥ 70 years).

The DnaJ1 heat shock protein interacts with the flavanone 3-hydroxylase-like protein F3HL to synergistically enhance drought tolerance by scavenging reactive oxygen species in tomato.

Plant J

March 2025

Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biosafety and Green Production of Upper Yangtze River (Ministry of Education), Southwest University, No. 2 Tiansheng Road, Beibei, Chongqing, 400715, P. R. China.

The widely distributed heat shock protein DnaJ is renowned for its pivotal role in enhancing thermal tolerance in plants; however, its involvement in drought tolerance remains elusive. In this study, genes encoding DnaJ1 were cloned from drought-resistant wild tomato (Solanum pennellii) and drought-sensitive cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). SpDnaJ1 and SlDnaJ1 from both tomato species were localized in the chloroplast, and their gene expression was induced by various abiotic stresses.

Concerns of increased metabolic dysfunction have been heightened for HIV patients on long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART). Among first-line ART agents, Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) may entail a marked increase in weight compared to Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). We retrospectively evaluated changes in weight and glucose regulation among 153 treament-naïve patients.

A comparison of two cleaning methods applied in a small animal hospital.

BMC Vet Res

March 2025

Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, 750 07, Sweden.

Background: Environmental cleaning of near-patient surfaces in animal healthcare is an important infection prevention and control measure to lower the risk of spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). There is a lack of reports on the effect of cleaning of near-patient surfaces in animal hospital wards. The aims of this study were to (1) determine bacterial load before cleaning, on near-patient surfaces in dog cages in a mixed medical and surgical ward and investigate factors associated with this bacterial load (2) compare the bacterial reduction on these surfaces after cleaning with (a) a scrubbing brush with detergent and rinsing before and after cleaning, and (b) a microfibre mop moistened with water, and after disinfection carried out after each cleaning method.

This study is the first attempt to examine the effects of NETA on immune cells and telocytes. The results of this study form an important knowledge base for the development of new information on the mechanism of contraceptive action of NETA in the uterus. Norethisterone acetate (NETA) is a synthetic progestogen medication commonly utilized in birth control pills, menopausal hormone therapy, and for curing abnormal uterine bleeding and endometriosis.
