The evidence for whether intentional control strategies can reduce automatic stereotyping is mixed. Therefore, the authors tested the utility of implementation intentions--specific plans linking a behavioral opportunity to a specific response--in reducing automatic bias. In three experiments, automatic stereotyping was reduced when participants made an intention to think specific counterstereotypical thoughts whenever they encountered a Black individual. The authors used two implicit tasks and process dissociation analysis, which allowed them to separate contributions of automatic and controlled thinking to task performance. Of importance, the reduction in stereotyping was driven by a change in automatic stereotyping and not controlled thinking. This benefit was acquired with little practice and generalized to novel faces. Thus, implementation intentions may be an effective and efficient means for controlling automatic aspects of thought.

Background: Older adults increasingly rely on digital technologies to perform instrumental activities of daily living (iADLs), including commerce, managing accounts online, using texting and websites for social connection, and accessing health services via web platforms. Despite the increasingly central role of technology to daily life, current iADL measures do not regularly capture the digital approach to daily activities. The current study had three broad aims 1) determine the applicability of technology-based iADLs to the daily lives of older adults being evaluated for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), 2) compare the level of dependence for tech and traditional iADL items, and 3) determine if adding technology related iADL items improves the diagnostic accuracy of iADL assessments.

Background: While high-frequency oscillations (HFOs) and their stereotyped clusters (sHFOs) have emerged as potential neuro-biomarkers for the rapid localization of the seizure onset zone (SOZ) in epilepsy, their clinical application is hindered by the challenge of automated elimination of pseudo-HFOs originating from artifacts in heavily corrupted intraoperative neural recordings. This limitation has led to a reliance on semi-automated detectors, coupled with manual visual artifact rejection, impeding the translation of findings into clinical practice.
Methods: In response, we have developed a computational framework that integrates sparse signal processing and ensemble learning to automatically detect genuine HFOs of intracranial EEG data.
Purpose: The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is currently estimated to be 1 in 36 children. While much is known about the impact of ASD on family and community functioning as well as treatment outcomes, less is known about a relatively new categorization of ASD, called "profound autism."
Methods: The current study evaluated 14 consecutively admitted patients meeting criteria for profound autism to a specialized psychiatric inpatient and partial hospitalization program.

Unlabelled: We describe the clinical treatment of repetitive, stereotypic hand mouthing in a 7-year old child with severe developmental delay, conducted in the context of center-based autism service. The client's history included use of mechanical restraint to prevent tissue damage and infection. Prior antecedent- and reinforcement-based interventions were ineffective.
