Serum determinations of CA125 and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) have been useful in monitoring the status of ovarian and prostate cancer, respectively. However, these antigens are not specific for these neoplasms and ignorance of that fact may lead to confusion in certain settings. Serum CA125 can be elevated in many benign and malignant conditions in which coelomic epithelium is involved. Although lymphoma cells do not secrete CA125, several investigators have reported serum elevations of CA125 in as many as 40% of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), particularly when peritoneal, pleural, or pericardial effusions are present. In such patients, CA125 levels appear to correlate with disease activity, whereas levels prior to treatment have correlated with disease-free and overall survival in some, but not all, studies. A number of investigators have suggested including serum CA125 levels in prognostic indices for lymphoma. PSA elevations have been reported in patients with NHL less frequently than CA125 elevations, but the PSA in such cases appears to be secreted by the lymphoma cells themselves. An innovative magnetic immunoassay was developed for the voltammetric detection of carbohydrate antigen-125 (CA-125) on a home-made microfluidic device including a multisyringe pump, selection valve and magneto-controlled detection cell. Two kinds of biofunctionalized nanostructures including anti-CA-125 capture antibody-conjugated magnetic beads and anti-CA-125 detection antibody-labeled silver-polypyrrole (Ag-PPy) nanohybrids were utilized for a sandwiched immunoreaction in the presence of CA-125. With the help of an external magnet, the formed magnetic immunocomplexes were attached to the sensing interface to activate the electrical contact between Ag-PPy nanohybrids and the base electrode, thus resulting in the switching on of the sensor circuit for the generation of voltammetric signals thanks to electroactive Ag-PPy nanohybrids.

Background: The ovarian cancer (OC) preclinical detectable phase (PCDP), defined as the interval during which cancer is detectable prior to clinical diagnosis, remains poorly characterised. We report exploratory analyses from the United Kingdom Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS).
Methods: In UKCTOCS between Apr-2001 and Sep-2005, 101,314 postmenopausal women were randomised to no screening (NS) and 50,625 to annual multimodal screening (MMS) (until Dec-2011) using serum CA-125 interpreted by the Risk of Ovarian Cancer Algorithm (ROCA).

Introduction: Adaptive ChemoTherapy for Ovarian cancer (ACTOv) is a phase II, multicentre, randomised controlled trial, evaluating an adaptive therapy (AT) regimen with carboplatin in women with relapsed, platinum-sensitive high-grade serous or high-grade endometrioid cancer of the ovary, fallopian tube and peritoneum whose disease has progressed at least 6 months after day 1 of the last cycle of platinum-based chemotherapy. AT is a novel, evolutionarily informed approach to cancer treatment, which aims to exploit intratumoral competition between drug-sensitive and drug-resistant tumour subpopulations by modulating drug dose according to a patient's own response to the last round of treatment. ACTOv is the first clinical trial of AT in this disease setting.

Cancer biomarkers have been facing some issues such as poor accuracy and low sensitivity in the early diagnosis of tumors. Utilizing biotin-labelled peptide as a mass tag (MT), this work proposes a high-throughput biosensing strategy for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometric (MALDI-TOF-MS) immunoassay of multiple lung cancer biomarkers. Due to little required dosage, satisfied stability, high sensitivity and accuracy, this method can achieve off-site centralized signal detection after on-site sample incubation.
