HIV/STD surveillance system data are important for developing prevention and control programmes for men who have sex with men (MSM), now a core group in Chinese HIV/STD surveillance activities. MSM were recruited from different settings in Shenzhen and were tested for HIV and syphilis. A substantial prevalence of HIV and syphilis infections was found in this population. However, risk behaviours and sociodemographic characteristics varied greatly among MSM recruited from the different settings (gay sauna, gay bar and MSM clinic), suggesting that carefully considering and selecting appropriate settings to represent the MSM population is critical for developing HIV and STD surveillance and prevention programmes.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) for HIV drug resistance (DR) testing has an increasing number of applications for the detection of low-abundance drug-resistant variants (LA-DRVs) in regard to its features as a quasi-species. However, there is less information on its detection performance in DR detection with NGS. To determine the feasibility of using NGS technology in LA-DRV detection for HIV-1 pretreatment drug resistance, 80 HIV-infected individuals who had never undergone antiretroviral therapy were subjected to both NGS and Sanger sequencing (SS) in HIV-1 drug resistance testing.

Doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy-PEP) reduces the risk of bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with men and transgender women. In the United States, doxy-PEP is in an early stage of integration into clinical practice, and national guidelines for its use were recently released. The goal of this manuscript is to provide practical guidance for clinicians who are considering or currently prescribing doxy-PEP.

Many people with HIV (PWH) in jail have not been well engaged in HIV treatment in the community. This study aimed to assess the impact of a data exchange paired with care coordination for PWH on HIV outcomes after jail release. We developed an automated process to match jail booking records with HIV surveillance data.
