Human CD105 antigen, a type I integral membrane glycoprotein, is expressed as homodimer and oligomer by human endothelial cells, and forms a heteromeric association with TGF-beta signaling receptors I and II. Several mutations of CD105 antigen gene are involved in a vascular disorder known as hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia type 1. The proposed mechanism by which CD105 is involved in said disorder is haploinsufficiency. We report expression and characterization of human CD105 antigen extracellular domain in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Different strategies to influence the release of heterologous proteins in the medium, such as alteration of cell wall integrity or coexpression of protein disulfide isomerase, were addressed. Purified extracellular domain of human CD105 antigen retains capacity to bind human TGF-beta receptor II in vitro.

Purpose: Myopic choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is a common reason for visual impairment. This study investigated the clinical effects of repeated intravitreal injections of ranibizumab among patients with CNV secondary to pathologic myopia.
Methods: This study involved a single-center, non-randomized clinical prospective cohort research design including 39 patients with myopic CNV and a control group of 10 patients with cataract.

Objective: To study the relationship between FK506-binding protein 51 (FKBP51) and ovarian aging and/or diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) in human ovaries by comparing FKBP51 levels in granulosa (GC) and cumulus cells (CC), collected during controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) from women of advanced reproductive age and/or with a diagnosis of DOR with that of young women with normal ovarian reserve. To explore the association between increased FKBP51 expression and human ovarian aging further, expression of FKBP51 was compared in ovarian stroma of post-menopausal versus pre-menopausal women. Lastly, this relation was further queried by comparing ovarian expression of several collagen genes as markers of ovarian fibrosis in 14-month-old wild type (Fkbp5) and Fkbp5 knockout (Fkbp5) mice.

Increases in mean lesional iron content by quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) by ≥6% and/or vascular permeability by dynamic contrast enhanced quantitative perfusion (DCEQP) by ≥40% on MRI have been associated with new symptomatic hemorrhage (SH) in cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs). It is not known if plasma biomarkers can reflect these changes within the lesion proper. This cohort study enrolled 46 CCM patients with SH in the prior year.

BMP-9 and BMP-10 are TGF-β family signaling ligands naturally secreted into blood. They act on endothelial cells and are required for proper development and maintenance of the vasculature. In hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, regulation is disrupted due to mutations in the BMP-9/10 pathway, namely in the type I receptor ALK1 or the co-receptor endoglin.
