A family of lamellar mesostructured n-alkylamine borophosphates, denoted C n A-BPO (BPO stands for inorganic borophosphate layer; n = 9-15, the number of carbon atoms in the n-alkylamine chain) has been prepared hydrothermally at 160 degrees C by using neutral n-alkylamines as templates. Those C n A-BPO compounds were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric measurements, and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) as well as chemical analyses. Interestingly, these compounds may form a bilayer, a monolayer, or mixed state of bilayer and monolayer structures depending on the content of n-alkylamine. Linear relationships for both bilayer and monolayer compounds were observed between the interlayer distances and the numbers of carbon atoms in the n-alkylamine chain. The thickness of the inorganic layers, the arrangement of n-alkylamine in the interlayer space, and the composition of the compounds are proposed.

Calcium phosphates are often used for biomedical applications. Hydroxyapatite, for example, has a wide range of applications because it mimics the mineral component of natural bone. Widespread interest in the catalytic properties of ceria is due to its use in automotive catalytic converters.

ZnSb is widely recognized as a promising thermoelectric material in its bulk form, and a ZnSb bilayer was recently synthesized from the bulk. In this study, we designed a vertical van der Waals heterostructure consisting of a ZnSb bilayer and an h-BN monolayer to investigate its electronic, elastic, transport, and thermoelectric properties. Based on density functional theory, the results show that the formation of this heterostructure significantly enhances electron mobility and reduces the bandgap compared to the ZnSb bilayer, thereby increasing its power factor.

essential oil is a natural substance able to inhibit the growth of several pathogens. This antimicrobial effect is often attributed to its ability to penetrate cellular structures and disrupt them. Although these properties are recognized as playing a key role in the mechanism of action of this substance, many unresolved issues still exist, and fundamental studies focused on such aspects are scarce.

Engineered living materials (ELMs), which usually comprise bacteria, fungi, or animal cells entrapped in polymeric matrices, offer limitless possibilities in fields like drug delivery or biosensing. Determining the conditions that sustain ELM performance while ensuring compatibility with ELM hosts is essential before testing them in vivo. This is critical to reduce animal experimentation and can be achieved through investigations.

Heterostructuring of two-dimensional materials offers a robust platform to precisely tune optoelectronic properties through interlayer interactions. Here we achieved a strong interlayer coupling in a double-layered heterostructure of sulfur isotope-modified adjacent MoS monolayers two-step chemical vapor deposition growth. The strong interlayer coupling in the MoS(S)/MoS(S) was affirmed by low-frequency shear and breathing modes in the Raman spectra.
