Complete duplication of the bladder and urethra is a rare entity. It may occur in the coronal and sagittal planes, and is often associated with other organ system anomalies, in particular of the gastrointestinal tract. We report an unusual variant of sagittal duplication of the bladder, in a male, associated with rudimentary hindgut duplication, and review the literature pertaining to this unusual anomaly.

Gall bladder duplication: A rare biliary malformation.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2025

Department of Radiology, National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Bir Hospital, Mahabouddha, Kathmandu, 44600, Nepal.

Gallbladder duplication is a rare anatomical variation with an incidence of approximately 1 in 3800 to 4000 live births, resulting from aberrant biliary organogenesis. This case report discusses a 35-year-old female who presented with intermittent lower abdominal pain, with initial imaging revealing a complex left adnexal cyst. Follow-up CT and ultrasound examinations revealed 2 distinct gallbladder-like structures in the gallbladder fossa, each with a cystic duct draining into the common bile duct.

Aims: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to determine the association of metabolic syndrome (METS) in women with and without overactive bladder (OAB).

Methods: PRISMA guidelines were followed and the protocol was registered at PROSPERO (CRD42024606398). We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and LILACS databases to obtain relevant articles for studies reporting METS outcomes related to OAB published through October 2024.

Introduction: Posterior urethral valve (PUV) is a congenital condition marked by obstructing persistent urogenital membrane, leading to urinary tract infections, bladder dysfunction, and kidney damage. It affects males only, mostly suspected antenatally and confirmed in early infancy. It requires early diagnosis and intervention to prevent long-term complications.

Article Synopsis
  • Urethral duplication is a rare congenital condition involving an extra urethra, often linked with other anomalies such as bladder exstrophy and renal issues.
  • The case presented involves an 8-month-old female with an unusual urinary opening in the prepubic area, confirmed through various diagnostic tests, and successfully treated with surgery to remove the accessory urethra.
  • Accurate diagnosis through imaging is crucial, and treatment must be customized based on the specifics of the anomaly; the case emphasizes the need for careful management of urethral duplication.

Split notochord syndrome (SNS) is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by incomplete midline notochordal integration during gastrulation, leading to segmental clefts of the spine. This case report describes a female patient with symptomatic cervico-dorsal SNS associated with a neurenteric cyst (NEC), intrathoracic gut duplication, and secondary hydrocephalus. Multistep surgical interventions were performed, including hydrocephalus management, excision of the cyst and gut duplication, and detethering with sectioning of the filum.
