The peak effect (PE) in the critical current density of type II superconductors has been related to an order-disorder transition in the vortex lattice (VL), but its underlying physics remains a controversial issue. Intrinsic to the PE are strong metastabilities that frequently mask the stationary VL configurations. We follow shaking and thermal protocols in NbSe2 single crystals to access these configurations and examine them by linear ac susceptibility measurements that avoid VL reorganization. We identify three different regions. For TT2(H), configurations are fully disordered and no metastability is observed. In the T1

Atomic defects in solids offer a versatile basis to study and realize quantum phenomena and information science in various integrated systems. All-electrical pumping of single defects to create quantum light emission has been realized in several platforms including color centers in diamond and silicon carbide, which could lead to the circuit network of electrically triggered single-photon sources. However, a wide conduction channel which reduces the carrier injection per defect site has been a major obstacle.

Self-assembly of 1T/1H superlattices in transition metal dichalcogenides.

Heterostructures and superlattices composed of layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), celebrated for their superior emergent properties over individual components, offer significant promise for the development of multifunctional electronic devices. However, conventional fabrication techniques for these structures depend on layer-by-layer artificial construction and are hindered by their complexity and inefficiency. Herein, we introduce a universal strategy for the automated synthesis of TMD superlattice single crystals through self-assembly, exemplified by the NbSeTe 1T/1H superlattice.

The hybrid ferromagnet-superconductor heterostructures have attracted extensive attention as they potentially host topological superconductivity. Relevant experimental signatures have recently been reported in CrBr/NbSe ferromagnet-superconductor heterostructure, but controversies remain. Here, we reinvestigate CrBr/NbSe by an ultralow temperature scanning tunneling microscope with higher spatial and energy resolutions.

Domain boundaries (DBs) in charge density wave (CDW) systems not only are important for understanding the mechanism of how CDW interplays with other quantum phases but also have potential for future CDW-based nanodevices. However, current research on DBs in CDW materials has been mainly limited to those between homochiral CDW domains, whereas DBs between heterochiral CDW domains, especially in the atomic layers, remain largely unexplored. Here, we have studied the geometric and electronic states of heterochiral DBs in single-layer and bilayer 1T-NbSe using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy.

Low-dimensional magnetic structures coupled with superconductors are promising platforms for realizing Majorana zero modes, which have potential applications in topological quantum computing. Here, we report a two-dimensional (2D) magnetic-superconducting heterostructure consisting of single-layer chromium diiodide (CrI) on a niobium diselenide (NbSe) superconductor. Single-layer CrI nanosheets, which hold antiferromagnetic (AFM) ground states by our first-principles calculations, were epitaxially grown on the layered NbSe substrate.
