Low concentration of digoxin (3 nM) facilitated spontaneous and evoked release of neurotransmitter acetylcholine thereby increasing the frequency of miniature end-plate potentials, amplitude of single end-plate potentials, their quantum content and the plateau level in the bursts during stimulation of the phrenic nerve at rates of 4, 7, and 50 Hz. These effects were prevented by blockade of ryanodine receptors with ryanodine (10-20 microM).

Brain neural networks intricately integrate excitatory and inhibitory synaptic potentials to modulate the generation or suppression of action potentials, laying the foundation for neuronal computation. Although bioinspired nanofluidic systems have replicated some synaptic functions, complete integration of postsynaptic potentials remains unachieved. In this work, the developed ion concentration gradient nanofluidic memristor (ICGNM) modulates memristive effects through ion concentration gradient adjustments and exhibits synaptic plasticity phenomena, including paired-pulse facilitation, paired-pulse depression, and spike-rate-dependent plasticity.

Several studies indicate that fructose can be used as an energy source for subterranean rodents. However, how subterranean rodents utilize fructose metabolism with no apparent physiological drawbacks remains poorly understood. In the present study, we measured field excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fEPSPs) in hippocampal slices from Gansu zokor and SD rats hippocampi before and 60 min after replacement of 10 mM glucose in the artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF) with 10 mM fructose (gassed with 95 % O and 5 % CO).

Introduction: Neonatal seizures are the most common clinical manifestation of neurological dysfunction in newborns, with an incidence ranging from 1 to 5‰. However, the therapeutic efficacy of current pharmacological treatments remains suboptimal. This study aims to utilize genetically modified hamsters with hypertriglyceridaemia (HTG) to investigate the effects of elevated triglycerides on neuronal excitability and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Aim: Despite dysfunctional vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-positive interneurons (VIP-INs) being linked to the emergence of neurodevelopmental disorders, the temporal profile of VIP-IN functional maturation and cortical network integration remains unclear.
Methods: Postnatal VIP-IN development was traced with patch clamp experiments in the somatosensory cortex of Vip-IRES-cre x tdTomato mice. Age groups were chosen during barrel field formation, before and after activation of main sensory inputs, and in adult animals (postnatal days (P) P3-4, P8-10, P14-16, and P30-36).

β-adrenergic receptors (β-ARs) play a critical role in modulating learning, memory, emotionality, and long-term synaptic plasticity. Recent studies indicate that β-ARs are necessary for long-term potentiation (LTP) induction in the ventral hippocampus under moderate synaptic activation conditions that do not typically induce LTP. To explore potential dorsoventral differences in β-AR-mediated effects, we applied the β-AR agonist isoproterenol (10 μM, 30 min) to dorsal and ventral hippocampal slices, recording field excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fEPSPs) and population spikes (PSs) from the CA1 region.
