Telomerase shows repeat-addition processivity (RAP): synthesis of multiple telomeric DNA repeats without primer dissociation. Leu14 mutants in the telomerase essential N-terminal domain of Tetrahymena thermophila telomerase reverse transcriptase retain full activity and anchor-site function but lose RAP, suggesting models for how this domain facilitates DNA translocation.

Hydrogen has been hailed as the core of the world's future energy architecture. It is imperative to develop catalysts with an efficient and sustained hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) to scale up alkaline/seawater electrolysis, yet significant difficulties and challenges, such as the high usage of precious metals, still remain. In this paper, a metastable-phase hexagonal close-packed (hcp) Ni-based catalyst with ultralow Pt content (3.

Telomerase is a special reverse transcriptase ribonucleoprotein dedicated to the synthesis of telomere repeats that protect chromosome ends. Among reverse transcriptases, telomerase is unique in using a stably associated RNA with an embedded template to synthesize a specified sequence. Moreover, it is capable of iteratively copying the same template region (repeat addition processivity) through multiple rounds of RNA-DNA unpairing and reannealing, that is, the translocation reaction.

Background: Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is widely used to treat soft tissue disorders, but evidence for its application after rotator cuff (RC) repair is lacking.
Objectives: To investigate the effect of ESWT on short-term functional and structural outcomes after RC repair.
Methods: Thirty-eight individuals were randomly assigned to the ESWT group (n = 19) or control group (n = 19) 3 months after RC repair.

Glutathione transferases (GSTs) constitute a widespread superfamily of enzymes notably involved in detoxification processes and/or in specialized metabolism. In the cyanobacterium sp. PCC 6803, SynGSTC1, a chi-class GST (GSTC), is thought to participate in the detoxification process of methylglyoxal, a toxic by-product of cellular metabolism.

Defects and vacancies are the essential reasons for the removal of heavy metal ions from wastewater by low-cost biochar materials. This study aimed to use chemically activated hemp stem core alkali extraction residue biochar as an adsorbent to remove nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu) ions from the simulated waste liquid. A large number of defects and vacancies were introduced into the pyrolysis process to study the efficient removal of heavy metal ions Cu and Ni by hemp rod biomass carbon material (HSR-BC) with different carbon base mass ratios and temperatures.
