Electron energy-loss spectra of single double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) were compared with calculated joint density of states (jDOSs) obtained by a simple tight-binding (STB) and an extended tight-binding (ETB) method. From the comparisons, interband transition energies of ETB calculations show better agreement with peak positions of the experimental spectra than those of STB results. From a further comparison among calculated jDOS, real and imaginary parts of a dielectric function and a loss function Im[-1/epsilon], it was confirmed that the peak energies in a spectrum of single DWCNTs are almost equal to those of the optical absorption spectrum epsilon(2).

Water is a fundamental component of life, playing a critical role in regulating metabolic processes and facilitating the dissolution and transport of essential molecules. However, emerging contaminants, such as pharmaceuticals, pose significant challenges to water quality and safety. Nanomaterial-based technologies emerge as a promising solution for removing those contaminants from water.

In semiconductor inspection equipment, a chuck used to hold a wafer is equipped with a cooling or heating system for temperature uniformity across the surface of the wafer. Surface temperature uniformity is important for increasing semiconductor inspection speed. Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs) are proposed to enhance temperature uniformity.

Primary cutaneous amoebiasis is rare, and typically affects immunocompromised patients and presents with unique clinical and histopathologic changes. Untreated, the infection could progress to involve the central nervous system, which is almost universally fatal. We present a case of primary cutaneous acanthamoebiasis in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia on acalabrutinib.

The intrinsic temperature dependence of Raman-active modes in carbon nanotubes (CNTs), particularly the radial breathing mode (RBM), has been a topic of a long-standing controversy. In this study, we prepared suspended individual CNTs to investigate how their Raman spectra depend on temperature and to understand the effects of environmental conditions on this dependency. We analyzed the intrinsic temperature dependence of the main Raman-active modes, including the RBM, the moiré-activated R feature, and the G-band in double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) after complete desorption of air.

Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Enable Breakdown of the Trade-off between Ion Selectivity and Water Permeability.

Although evidence has been presented for desalination potentials in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), it is still very challenging to overcome the trade-off between ion selectivity and water permeability by simply tuning the carbon nanotube (CNT) size. In this work, we prove that double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) can make it. Employing a series of molecular dynamics simulations, we find a striking phenomenon that tuning the combination architecture of DWCNTs can significantly improve the desalination performance, with the salt rejection rate even reaching 100% in some cases while maintaining high levels of water flux.
