After consulting literature, following the original meaning of the paper about slow-rapid reinforcing-reducing method in Huangdi's Internal Classic, in combination with explanation of later ages, and comprehension and clinical experience of the authors, it is put forward that the slow-rapid reinforcing-reducing method in Huangdi's Internal Classic is not single manipulation method, but it is a guiding principle for reinforcing-reducing manipulation, it includes many manipulation methods and they were listed, and all of the reinforcing-reducing methods of later ages are developed from these. In the teaching material Acupuncture and Moxibustion Sciences they are included in single reinforcing-reducing method, reducing extension and intension of this definition. The relative description in the teaching material only is slow-rapid reinforcing-reducing method of narrow sense, but the manipulations can be divided into qi-carrying manipulating needle type and three-one pushing-pulling type.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of slow-rapid reinforcing-reducing needling manipulation at Jiaji (EX-B 2) acupoint for lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion.
Methods: Sixty subjects met the inclusion criteria of disc herniation were randomly divided into treatment group (n = 30) and control group (n = 30). In the treatment group, the stimulation mode (slow or fast, reinforcement or reduction) of Jiaji acupoints (EX-B 2) was based on the status of the patients by an overall analysis of symptoms and signs.

Objective: To study on the original meanings of "reinforcement can be achieved by slow-yet-rapid needling, and rapid-yet-slow needling weakens evil-qi", one of important bases of reinforcing-reducing in acupuncture.
Methods: Using the principle of knowledge archaeology and through structure an d through structure analysis on the subjects described by "slow" and "rapid" and the papers appearing the words, the meanings of this sentence are re-discriminated.
Conclusion: "Slow-rapid" prescribed in the reinforcing-reducing needling method in Huangdi's Internal Classic includes 3 subjects: pulse condition, needle-retained time, and velocity of withdrawing the needle.
Objective: To resolve the contradictory in expounding of reinforcing and reducing by lifting and thrustion the needle and slow-rapid reinforcing and reducing method.
Methods: In a certain condition, the relationship between the external force (the joint force of both the pressing on the force pressing on the needle and the force arresting the needle's moving) and the speed of needle's moving is deduced by means of kinetic energy theorem, so, when the needle is heavily thrust or lifted, the speed of its moving will be increased.
Conclusion: In the reinforcing and reducing method by lifting and thrusting the needle, "heavily"and "gently" of heavily thrustiing and gently lifting or gently thrusting and heavily lifting should be considered as differences of the amplitudes of lifting and thrusting the needle; "slow-rapid" of slow-rapid reinforcing and reducing method should be considered as difference of the speeds.

85 cases of apoplexy were treated with scalp acupuncture, including 52 cases by the method of slow-rapid reinforcing-reducing and 33 cases by the method of flat twisting. The total effective rates differed insignificantly between the 2 methods. However, in respects of improving the myodynamia and motile functional disturbances of the limbs, the method of slow-rapid reinforcing-reducing was markedly superior to the method of flat twisting.
