Daubechies wavelets are a powerful systematic basis set for electronic structure calculations because they are orthogonal and localized both in real and Fourier space. We describe in detail how this basis set can be used to obtain a highly efficient and accurate method for density functional electronic structure calculations. An implementation of this method is available in the ABINIT free software package. This code shows high systematic convergence properties, very good performances, and an excellent efficiency for parallel calculations.

Background: The crucial steps in beta cell stimulus-secretion coupling upon stimulation with glucose are oscillatory changes in metabolism, membrane potential, intracellular calcium concentration, and exocytosis. The changes in membrane potential consist of bursts of spikes, with silent phases between them being dominated by membrane repolarization and absence of spikes. Assessing intra- and intercellular coupling at the multicellular level is possible with ever-increasing detail, but our current ability to simultaneously resolve spikes from many beta cells remains limited to double-impalement electrophysiological recordings.

Aim(s): This study aims to evaluate the workload of clinical nurses by measuring the work relative value (work RVU) of common nursing items based on the resource-based relative value scale in China.

Background: Various single measurements have been employed to measure the nursing workload, but no comprehensive method has yet to be developed in China.

Methods: A descriptive study was conducted to construct a common item set for nursing work in general wards on the basis of the 2019 History Information System nursing database from Class A tertiary hospitals to identify the time associated with each service.

Dynein-1 is a microtubule motor responsible for the transport of cytoplasmic cargoes. Activation of motility requires it first overcome an autoinhibited state prior to its assembly with dynactin and a cargo adaptor. Studies suggest that Lis1 may relieve dynein's autoinhibited state.

Tagging RNAs with fluorogenic aptamers has enabled imaging of transcripts in living cells, thereby revealing novel aspects of RNA metabolism and dynamics. While a diverse set of fluorogenic aptamers has been developed, a new generation of aptamers are beginning to exploit the ring-opening of spirocyclic rhodamine dyes to achieve robust performance in live mammalian cells. These fluorophores have two chemical states: a colorless, cell-permeable spirocyclic state and a fluorescent zwitterionic state.

Gut microbiota are fundamental for healthy animal function, but the evidence that host function can be predicted from microbiota taxonomy remains equivocal, and natural populations remain understudied compared to laboratory animals. Paired analyses of covariation in microbiota and host parameters are powerful approaches to characterise host-microbiome relationships mechanistically, especially in wild populations of animals that are also lab models, enabling insight into the ecological basis of host function at molecular and cellular levels. The fruitfly is a preeminent model organism, amenable to field investigation by 'omic analyses.
