Introduction: The aim of this work was to analyse the suitability of mesenchymal stem cell isolation by FICOLL density centrifugation and the closed bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) system for sinus augmentation with bovine bone mineral (BBM) in the sheep model.
Methods: 16 sheep underwent sinus augmentation with BBM and MSCs; they were divided between two groups with survival points of 8 and 16 weeks. For the FICOLL control arm three, and for the BMAC test arm, five augmentations were performed for each time point.

Phenotypes of sheep cell lines infected with Theileria lestoquardi or T. annulata were studied by flow cytometric analysis, following immunolabelling with a panel of monoclonal antibodies reacting to leukocyte differentiation antigens. Cell surface phenotypes of Theileria-infected sheep cell lines derived ex vivo and in vitro were compared, both with each other and with cell lines from cattle undergoing acute T.

During recent years neutralizing antibodies against Border Disease Virus (BDV) were found repeatedly in German pig herds. Consequently there was a demand for a differential diagnostic system. A permanent sheep cell line and BDV reference strain Moredun were chosen and were applied in a could be used case study.

Problem: Heart valve replacement with either a nonliving xenograft or a mechanical prosthesis is an effective therapy for valvular heart disease. Both of these approaches have limitations, including their inability to grow, repair, and remodel. In addition, a mechanical prosthesis requires long-term anticoagulation therapy.

Staphylococcus aureus Cowan I (SAC) is a potent stimulus of B cell proliferation and differentiation, the latter being T cell-dependent. It has been suggested that immunoglobulin and IgM rheumatoid factor (RF) production in response to SAC involves radiosensitive T helper cells. We studied normal peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) cultures to assess the roles of radiosensitive T cells and Leu-2 positive suppressor cells in the cellular control of SAC-stimulated IgM and IgM RF responses.
