Objectives: Despite being a commensal of human skin, Cutibacterium acnes plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Acne vulgaris, with the loss of bacterial phylotype diversity being related to disease progression. This study evaluated differences in the virulence profile of C. acnes strains from different phylotypes and investigated the possible phylotype-selective efficacy of essential oils (EOs) from Thymus x citriodorus (TC), Thymus mastichina, and Cistus ladanifer compared to Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree), focusing on both planktonic and biofilm growth forms, the latter being related with pathogenesis and treatment resistance.

Background: Short tandem repeat (STR) markers are widely used in forensic DNA analysis due to their ability to provide automated and standardised typing. However, incorrect STR typing can have a significant impact on forensic outcomes.
Aim: In this study, we detected drop-out alleles at the SE33 locus in a putative father-son pair using the Microreader 28 A ID System.

The intracellular pathogen can inflict substantial damage on the host. Notably, Chlamydia infection is acknowledged for its precise modulation of diverse host signaling pathways to ensure cell survival, a phenomenon intricately connected to genetic regulatory changes in host cells. To monitor shifts in gene regulation within Chlamydia-infected cells, we employed mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a naïve, primary cell model.
