Article Synopsis
  • Musculoskeletal injuries (MSKIs) in soldiers lead to over 10 million limited duty days annually and constitute more than 70% of the medically nondeployable population, primarily due to overuse injuries from physical activities like running and heavy lifting.* -
  • To address this, a new three-dimensional camera-based platform called OSCIR is being developed to detect and correct risk-increasing movement patterns, enhancing training and rehabilitation for soldiers by focusing on proper biomechanics and movement quality.* -
  • The OSCIR system integrates multiple Kinect Azure cameras to accurately track dynamic movements and has been tested on a small group of participants to validate its effectiveness in identifying potential injury risks through advanced joint tracking algorithms.*

No-reference point cloud quality assessment (PCQA) based on bitstreams uses information extracted from the bitstream for quality monitoring at network nodes. We develop a no-reference PCQA model based on bitstreams for the perceived quality assessment of Octree-Lifting coded point clouds. At first, our research explores the essential correlation between subjective visual quality degradation and the texture quantization parameter (TQP) when using lossless geometric coding.

Due to the influence of coal rock shape, hardness, working environment and other factors in the cutting process of cantilever roadheader, the cutting head will produce irregular and violent vibration. As the rotary table of key stress components, its operation process stability, dynamic reliability and life affect the cutting efficiency and cutting stability of cantilever roadheader. In order to study the vibration characteristics of the rotary table in the cutting process, firstly, based on the theory of spatial force analysis and calculation, the spatial mechanical model of the rotary table of the cantilever roadheader is established.

Background: Masks are well accepted in Japan, where they were already part of daily life even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike many other countries where mask mandates were lifted as soon as the pandemic was under control, Japan was one of the last countries to ease mask-wearing guidelines. Even after the formal announcement to allow masks-off in mid-March 2023, many Japanese still voluntarily wear masks.

Association of lightning with Lifting Condensation Level (LCL), Equilibrium Level (EL), K Index, and humidity at 850 mb and 200 mb in 2019 and 2020 over National Capital Region (Delhi) (Lat: 27°N -29°N, Lon: 76°E-78°E) is investigated using in-situ observation data. Study shows high lightning activity during low LCL, and vice versa. This high lighting and low LCL is associated with high relative humidity at 850 mb, and high "K" index.
