Unlabelled: The presence of semen in vaginal fluid, as identified by an acid phosphatase spot test, does not influence vaginal proinflammatory cytokine concentrations.
Objective: Determine whether semen, as detected by acid phosphatase, influences vaginal cytokines or secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor concentrations.
Methods: 138 pregnant women had vaginal fluid collected for Gram stain, acid phosphatase detection by colorimetric assay, and interleukin 1-Beta, interleukin-6, interleukin-8, and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor measurement by enzyme immunoassay. Results for women with and without acid phosphatase were compared by Mann-Whitney test.
Results: Of 138 subjects, 28 (20%) had acid phosphatase detected; of these, only 19 (68%) reported recent intercourse and 3 (11%) had sperm seen on Gram stain. There were no significant differences in proinflammatory cytokine concentrations; however, secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor concentrations were significantly higher among women with acid phosphatase.
Conclusions: Proinflammatory cytokine measurement does not appear to be affected by the presence of semen, but secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor is significantly higher when semen is present. Detection of semen by acid phosphatase was associated with higher vaginal SLPI concentrations, however, the presence of semen did not appear to influence vaginal proinflammatory cytokine concentrations.

Objectives: The effects of systemic inflammation on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are poorly understood. This study aimed to establish a mouse model to study the effects of systemic inflammation on the TMJ.
Materials And Methods: SKG mice, a BALB/c strain with spontaneous onset of rheumatoid arthritis-like symptoms due to a spontaneous point mutation (W163C) in the gene encoding the SH2 domain of ZAP-70, were treated with zymosan (β-1,3-glucan).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality parameters and selected biochemical markers of canine semen sampled at 24-h intervals over a period of 5 days, preceded by 6 months of sexual abstinence. Full ejaculates were obtained from 6 dogs. Ejaculate volume and total sperm counts in the ejaculate decreased gradually on successive sampling days.

We aimed to develop and validate a prognostic model for the early prediction of patients who nonresponse to UDCA. This retrospective analysis was conducted among patients with primary biliary cholangitis(N = 257) to develop a predictive model for early-stage nonresponse to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) therapy.

Choroid neovascularization (CNV) is a distinct type of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with a poor prognosis and responsible for the majority of vision loss in the elderly population. The laser-induced CNV model is a well-established animal model frequently used to study CNV. In this study, we performed an integrated analysis of metabolomic and transcriptomic data from CNV samples, utilizing multiple approaches including single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA), correlation analysis, and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), alongside various bioinformatics platforms, to identify key metabolic and immune signatures and to investigate their interplay during angiogenesis.

Nitrate reductase (NR) is an essential enzyme because of its role in nitrogen metabolism and in key signaling events through the generation of the reactive nitrogen species, nitric oxide (NO). In this work, we evaluated changes in endogenous NO levels during the onset of P-restriction in soybean plants (Glycine max), focusing on the possible pathways involved in its generation, namely NR and NO synthase like activity, NOS, and the subsequent role of NR during low P-acclimation. During the first 96h of P-starvation NO levels increased in the leaves.
