Airborne laser-communication systems require special considerations in size, complexity, power, and weight. We reduce the variability of the received signal by implementing optimized multiple-transmitter systems to average out the deleterious effects of turbulence. We derive the angular laser-beam separation for various isoplanatic and uncorrelated (anisoplanatic) conditions for the phase and amplitude effects. In most cases and geometries, the angles ordered from largest to smallest are: phase uncorrelated angle (equivalent to the tilt uncorrelated angle), tilt isoplanatic angle, phase isoplanatic angle, scintillation uncorrelated angle, and scintillation correlation angle (Theta(psiind) > Theta(TA) > Theta(0) > Theta(chiind) > Theta(chic)). Multiple beams with angular separations beyond Theta(chic) tend to reduce scintillation variations. Larger separations such as Theta(TA) reduce higher-order phase and scintillation variations and still larger separations beyond Theta(psiind) tend to reduce the higher and lower-order (e.g. tilt) phase and scintillation effects. Simulations show two-transmitter systems reduce bit error rates for ground-to-air, air-to-air, and ground-to-ground scenarios.

Objective: Conventional coherent plane wave compounding (CPWC) and sum-of-square power Doppler (PD) estimation lead to low contrast and high noise level in ultrafast PD imaging when the number of plane-wave angle and the ensemble length is limited. The coherence-based PD estimation using temporal-multiply-and-sum (TMAS) of high-lag autocorrelation can effectively suppress the uncorrelated noises but at the cost of signal power due to the blood flow decorrelation.
Methods: In this study, the TMAS PD estimation is incorporated with complementary subset transmit in nonlinear compounding (DMAS-CST) to leverage the signal coherence in both angular and temporal dimensions for improvement of PD image quality.

Using the spectral energy density method, we predict the phonon scattering mean lifetimes of polycrystalline graphene (PC-G) having polycrystallinity only along the -axis with seven different misorientation (tilt) angles at room temperature. Contrary to other studies on PC-G samples, our results indicate a strong dependence of the thermal conductivity (TC) on the tilt angles which we attribute to careful preparation of our grain boundaries-based samples without introducing any local strains and ensuring periodic boundary conditions for the supercells along the and axes. We also show that the square of the group velocity components along and axes and the phonon lifetimes are uncorrelated and the phonon density of states are almost the same for all samples with different tilt angles.

In the manual ball-and-beam task, participants have to control a ball that is rolling continuously on a long and hand-held beam. Since the task can be performed individually, in a solo action setting, as well as collaboratively, in a (dyadic) joint action setting, it allows us to investigate how joint performances arise from individual performances, which we investigate in a series of interrelated studies. Here we focused on individual skill acquisition on the ball-and-beam task in the solo action setting, with the goal to characterize the behavioral dynamics that arise from learning to couple (ball motion) perception and (beam motion) action.

Importance: Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is becoming the recommended first choice in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma (OAG). However, whether repeat SLT can be recommended regardless of initial response remains controversial.
Objective: To assess the potential of OAG and ocular hypertension (OHT) undergoing repeat laser to respond favorably to SLT, termed responsiveness to SLT.
