Widespread plaque inflammation has been demonstrated in acute coronary syndromes (ACS). We evaluated signs of plaque inflammation in carotid arteries of patients with ACS by contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Carotid MRI was performed in 13 patients with ACS and in 9 controls having at least 1 carotid plaque with a stenosis > or =40%. MRI criteria of plaque inflammation were: increased T2 signal >50% of the plaque areas (tissue oedema) and/or enhancement after gadolinium injection (neo-vascularization). MRI signs of inflammation were found in 95% and in 33% of patients with ACS and controls, respectively (p<0.001). Carotid artery MRI may serve as a window to the entire cardiovascular system, to identify "vulnerable" patients.
Alzheimer's disease (AD), the predominant form of dementia, is a neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) characterized by a subtle onset and a spectrum of cognitive and functional declines. The clinical manifestation of AD encompasses memory deficits, cognitive deterioration, and behavioral disturbances, culminating in a severe impairment of daily living skills. Despite its high prevalence, accounting for 60-70% of all dementia cases, there remains an absence of curative therapeutics.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of premature death in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and vascular damage is often detected belatedly, usually evaluated by expensive and invasive techniques. CKD involves specific risk factors that lead to vascular calcification and atherosclerosis, where inflammation plays a critical role. However, there are few inflammation-related markers to predict vascular damage in CKD.
Purpose: Inflammatory responses induced by NLRP3 inflammasome contribute to the progression of atherosclerosis. This study seeks to investigate the effect of emodin on the NLRP3 inflammasome in atherogenesis and to probe the underlying mechanism.
Methods: ApoE-knockout (ApoE) mice were treated with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 weeks and intragastrically with emodin for 6 weeks.
Injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) is a novel platelet concentrate that has been employed in dentistry with the objective of promoting tissue regeneration and healing. In contrast to platelet-rich plasma (PRP), i-PRF is more straightforward to handle, more cost-effective, and free from anticoagulants, which reduces biochemical alterations. The i-PRF procedure was developed in 2014 by adjusting the centrifugation forces.
